That's a great question. If we can be saved by works, which one? how can we know when we have done enough of them? how do we know if our good works outweigh our bad ones? Would God take delight in hanging us in the balance always wondering about our eternal destinies if we have done enough? Salvation is by Divine accomplishment, not human achievment. The cause of our salvation is God's grace, the means by which He saves us is faith. Ephesians 2:8-10- "by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, not of works lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works." Ephesians 1:7 - In Christ we redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace." Grace alone. The only thing we bring to the table is our sin. The blood of Jesus cleansus us from our guilt. Praise God.

Look at some of my recent questions reguarding this. I have asked three questions over this in the past week and a half (one is "help with a verse" just so you can find it).
Key verses to read are:
Eph. 2:8
Cor. 3 (all of it really)
Those state that Jesus is why we are saved, and not anything else.
Matt 25:31-46
James 2:20
Those show that we will be judged by our works and that faith without works is dead.
I believe that we are saved by grace, and we will want to do good if we are truly saved, therefore we will do good deeds. I'm still wondering about the whole deathbed situation. I'm sure those people had a chance in their life when they could have accepted Christ.

There are some things we must do, read Matthew 7:21 and I John, but those things without faith do not save us.
Salvation by grace alone is false; if it were true, the whole world is already saved. Grace makes salvation available to us, but you must do what Jesus said.
Show me where in the Bible it says "grace alone" or "faith only." I don't think you can do it. You just say "read the Bible" because you don't know where it is.

Dear Mya,
I believe that we are saved by Grace alone.
Grace is:
G od's
R iches
A t
C hrist's
E xpense
We are not saved BY good works but to DO good works, not the other way around. Before I came to this realization I was like other people in comparing the good works I did to those that other people did. I wondered if God "graded on a curve".
Hallowed be His Name.

We are saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."

We are all saved by grace, or in better words, by the Atonement of Jesus Christ, through the resurrection of body and spirit. It is the personal works that determine to what glory an individual will merit.
Those just getting by and doing little to nothing can not expect to be sitting next to Abraham or Moses in the next life.

We are save by Grace through faith....period. It is a finished work. Jesus who bore the righteous wrath of God in our stead
made this possible.
Works are a natural progression of an inward change and not an integral part of salvation....

Is anything we can do mean any sin we commit? if yes: their is only one sin that is unforgivable and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. I'm not sure how to commit that one and I do not want to know. God through Jesus's death on the cross will wipe our sin clean as far as the east is from the west. He took all mans sins away if they have a truly repentant heart. I know I have been forgiven of Adultery and my wife forgiven of an abortion. God is doing great things in our life right now. We no longer have faith we have FACT. i hope this was interesting truth for you.

It's exactly as joyfilled said.... when you believe with all of your heart that you are saved because of Jesus, then you become empowered to do good works, they are a reflection of your belief. Doing good works without this strong belief, means nothing. Likewise, when you are saved through faith, this is not a free ticket to go be evil and remain saved, on the contrary, the Holy Spirit dwells within and keeps us on the right path, convicting us whenever necessary, and we then want to and will repent as soon as we realize what happened....since after all, no one, except Jesus Christ Himself, is perfect.

In the book of James (the 17th and 18th verses of the second chapter, KJV), it tells us that faith without works is dead, being alone.
In John 14:15 (KJV) Jesus also tells us, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." Why would he tell us to keep his commandments (the two great commandments, according to Christ in the New Testament, being to love the Lord thy God and to love thy neighbor) if the only thing needed to be "saved" was to believe?
While I know that Momon doctrine isn't exactly popular around here, it does offer an interesting explanation that bridges the various scriptures that say only faith is required with those (like James) that say works are needed. Mormon doctrine states that the grace of Christ takes us the rest of the way after all that we can do with works.
