The list is long of what some groups of Christians say we need to do to get into Heaven.
Think about it. If your Son died for someone and that someone came to you and brought you money because they thought your Son's life was not enough, what would you think.
We are commanded to be baptised after we have accepted God's answer to show what was done---not to get it done.
Some will disagree with this explanation. Put yourself in God's place, and then you decide if there is something to add to what He did.

In various places in the NT baptism is mentioned. One place says that you must be baptized in the water and in the Spirit to be saved. At that time, though, someone had asked if baptizing in water would save them. There are also places where it says that you must accept Christ and be baptized in the spirit to be saved. My personal take on this, although I have been baptized in water, is that the water baptism is just a symbolist washing away of the sins and that it is not absolutely necessary, though recommended. I cannot believe God would deny salvation to someone who accepted Christ but hadn't been baptized in water. I believe that baptism in the spirit is what it takes.

Water baptism is not required for salvation. The thief on the cross next to Jesus was saved even though he was not baptized.
Baptism symbolizes our death to sin and resurrection to new life in Christ. It also represents the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Being baptized is an act of obedience for a Christian.
Hope this helps!

The role of baptism varies between denominations. Generally speaking, salvation is attained ONLY by accepting Christ and confessing sins. Baptism is considered a sacrament, an outward profession of belief and acceptance of grace, and is generally symbolic. While baptism and witnessing are ways to show your faith, acceptance of Christ's sacrifice is all you need to be saved.

Mark 16:16 ; You need to be saved to be baptized. But your not baptized so you can be saved.Baptism is a part of the commission given to the Apostles or Church as they did represent the church at that time.It is an outward sign that we do as Christians to tell others that we have buried that old man and now the new man has come forth.A child that is not accountable should never be baptized.

I asked a question like this a few days ago and got lots of good,(and some bad) answers. I believe the baptism that gets you to heaven is the one God does. Remember in the Bible when John the Baptist says,"I baptise you with water but there is one who comes after me whose sandles I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptise you with fire and the Holy Spirt."? I think that is the true baptism.

Water baptism is your public acknowledgment of your faith. It is not needed for salvation, but anytime you can get out and proclaim your love for God...that's a good thing. The thief on the cross was saved by faith.

Baptism is a testimony of our faith. The baptism needed if of the Holy Spirit. We get baptised because this was Jesus example. Besides, it couldn't be for salvation- Jesus died to save us but He did not need saving Himself

Water baptism is NOT essential to salvation - a personal acceptance that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour, that He died in your place, and rose again to save you from your sin, and that you will have a personal relationship with Him is...
Water baptism is a solemn statement of faith and purification in the Lord...
I recently heard it put this way - in the beginning (as in Genesis) God's spirit hovered over the waters.... out of the water - he created order out of chaos.. I like that. Water baptism is essentially our declaration that we, in obedience, accept that Christ will create in us a new being out of the chaotic being that we were.
It's an act of obedience.
rather a pretty picture I think....

Water baptism is commanded, but it will not save you; we do it in obedience to Jesus, his example, and his commandment to his disciples. I am suspicious of anybody that says they believe but do not want to be baptized; it's like giving them a free train ticket, then they don't want to get on the train.
I know as much about baptism as your priest does, maybe more.
