And I believe that God created the Earth billions of years ago. I also believe that God used evolution to evolve plant and animal life to where it is today.

Does anyone else agree with me?

Many people do, including famous Catholic scientists. Just remember, it's only a theory.

There have been rocks exposed at the earth's surface that date between 2.5 and 3.8 billion years old. This is a scientific fact. I also am a Christian and believe that God created this earth and the entire universe that we live in. He did not, however do it 6,000 years ago. It was probably actually closer to 4 to 5 billion years ago, and man didn't come around until likely 200,000 years ago give or take. Yes, the Bible is the word of God but it has also been translated and CHANGED many times and it is my opinion that God didn't mean for it to be taken that literally anyway. I think that Saint Thomas Aquinas would agree with me on this one (if you don't know who he is look it up). Also, it is a FACT that Genesis contradicts itselfs many times (if you don't believe me just read it!).

You are what is called a "Theistic Evolutionist," that is, someone who believes in God and Jesus and the Bible, that God created the Earth, but also believes that the Earth is billions of years old and that everything that we know today came about through some form of evolution. You are not the only one that exists in this world. I however do not side with you or the other theistic evolutionists because I understand the Hebrew word in Genesis 1 the only way that it can be understood: that the word day, yom, refers to a single, 24 hour period, and is therefore not a metaphor for an extended period of time, say millions of years or something like that. Thus, based on that reasoning and the back tracking through time that can be done through study of the Scriptures, I believe with a vast majority of the Christians on this earth that the earth is not much more than 6,000 years old, which can also be proven through the study of the created order, but I will not divulge into that here as I am very much inept in explaining those discoveries. I will just finish by saying that you are probably wrong to view the world as being formed through evolutionary concepts that are directed by God (except that one that has species adapting to their environments and changing some things in order to survive, adaptation, that's ok God is working through that form of evolution) and by thinking that the earth is more than 6,000 years old. You are, by the beliefs you have outlined, a Theistic Evolutionist, and you are not the only one of your kind here in North America.

I fully agree with you. I believe that God created the earth and that God not necessarily "used" but continues to allow plants and animals to evolve to adapt to their living conditions.

I read the answer about the serpent and that doesn't mean that evolution could have existed. It means that the serpent was "cursed" because it was already either legged or winged -- there is speculation on which it was -- but either way, it was a curse because it was changed from its current state to crawling on its belly.

As far as evolution, you only have to look at some of the animals today to see that they have evolved tremendously to be able to function and adapt to their environment. Global warming is forcing many species to evolve to adapt to the changes in climate and weather conditions.

So, yes -- you can believe that God created the Earth and you can believe that God uses evolution. God, in His wisdom gave animals and plants the ability to evolve because He knew that man would cause conditions to change that could eventually destroy part of God's creation.

I'd have to say I dont.

According to Genesis, God made all the creatures at one time,(or seven days), each according to it's kind. I dont see how a monkey could evolve into a man and just 'become' something in God's own image. I think the bible makes it clear that creatures did not evolve into other creatures, although i do think species may have changed just a little bit over time, especially after the flood. Don't believe me, pick up the bible and read Genesis one. Hope I've spoken truth!

I thikn that it's likely that God creted the Earth millions or billions of years ago. The Gap Theory of Genesis 1:1 - 1:2 explains that one. But Evolution? Nah. I don't think so.

Animal life form, as in humans too? We are animals.

So you dont believe in Adam and Eve? So you're calling "God" a liar? - Cuz if you are, i agree. (I Know thats not what you meant)

You're free to believe what you wanna believe, dont let anyone else stop ya!

Umm - someone said animals can't evolve? There are animals today that have evolved over the past years.

I'm no longer a Christian, but I still believe that evolution was a tool used by deity to form what the Earth is today.

In the bible it hints at evolution... To explain... God told the serpent that he was cursed to crawl on his belly .. if evolution didn't in some way co-exist with creation... why would God have CURSED the serpent to crawl on his belly? That means that there was a chance for the serpent(or offspring) to grow legs and walk ! That hints at evolution... God would have no reason to tell the serpent that he was cursed in this way if he wouldn't have had the chance to evolve and walk. Think about it!
I think that they can co-exist.
But to each their own!

Getting warmer, Theo.....very warm now. You're nearly there. So, you've taken your first step away from a literal interpretation of the bible. Well done! A gold star for you! Now just put in a little more effort, then, tah dah! You'll be one of the good guys! And then you can wear bright colored skivvies, sing and dance and have the fluffy little forest creatures come up to you with trust in their little hearts.

how can one say they are a Christian but then turn around and be saying crap like the earth was created billions of years ago? read your bible, it helps clear things up. i mean dont get me wrong, yes things do evolve. evolution is simply change over time. we all change we all "evolve" we all adapt. but when i say "evolve" i dont we that we came from monkeys, cuz that's just straight up bull, but hey if you want to screw up, hey i hope you like it hot...
