Unfortunately, sending aid to Africa doesn't address the ultimate problem.

There is only one thing that will solve the problem of rampant poverty and disease in Africa.

The adults who live there need to take responsibility for their own society. They need to stop having children that they know they cannot feed. They need to adopt more monogamous sex practices that will slow the spread of STDs. They need put more effort into farming and educating their children instead of relying on foreign aid to do it. And most importantly, they need to stop the constant warfare in many areas that destroys every step of progress that is made.

I don't like the situation in Africa at all, but I'm not naive enough to think that sending money there does anything to improve the situation.

Why do you only focus on the children of Africa? there are many people, children and adults alike, suffering in this world. Your question have been asked numerous times at yahoo answer. You are basically asking "why is God allowing suffering in the world" type it in google and you will see a lot of answer or you can just click in the link below. As for me, I am a nurse, I am doing the best I can to help the children that comes through my TRAUMA. They could either be abused by their parents or whatever but at least I am doing something. I also volunteer once in while to feed the poor and homeless. How about you? Seems like all you do is be condescending and offensive to christians and yet maybe you have not done enough either. If you live in this country, then why don't you help the children and the people suffering here? After we take care of our problem here, then let us start helping people outside. We can't help them all, we need to start at our own backyard.

Oprah built this huge school in Africa, which is all well and good, but what about the children here in the US? She was stereotyping HER OWN PEOPLE!! She said she wouldn't build a school for american black kids cause all they want is gameboys, and boomboxes, and all that. But, there are children here in the US who need a school like that as much as those children in Africa.

As far as God doing nothing, well, He did nothing to CAUSE all this suffering. So, yes, we are responsible for alleviating the suffering.

The issues facing Africa are highly complex, and yes, most Americans know incredibly little about what is facing young children in Africa....not only the standard lack of resources and access to education, but the lack of infrastructure also means that young college graduates often face a zero chance of finding work in their own countries.

Children face physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; likewise, they are vulnerable to exploitive labour and to being trafficked for work or to become prostitutes.

and how can we forget HIV/AIDS?

Many Christian organizations do work to help with these issues, but until Americans--and American Christians in particular--educate themselves about the issues facing Children in Africa and learn how to truly partner with African communities rather than using a paternalistic approach, then you're right--it looks little like a world where God's people truly work for the sake of the vulnerable and oppressed.

none of us knows what G-d has or has not done

all we can know is what others and ourselves have done

as to your specific question?

what have I done?

not as much as I could, I know
but I am only one person and there are many worthy causes that need all of our attentions

I personally did the Global Night Commute last summer to bring awareness to the plight of the Children of Darfur who have suffered greatly

as part of that I spent the night sleeping under a tree in the pouring rain in the park with thousands of others....we wrote letters to our senators and to the President demanding that they address the problems and we created picture letters to send to those children who are being helped right now and who managed to get out

while we spent the night outside people from other parts of the country did the same thing

it was a small thing, but in it's way it did bring attention to the plight

I have done nothing. I think we shouldn't give money because between the government and militias taking portions of it, the children get little or nothing. I think instead we should hire contractors and continue to provide services and show these people how to care for themselves so that we are sure they are getting the help they need.

as humans we do not have the comprehention level as a hole to know and understand that as cruel as it may sound death is not always a punishment. it can somet imes be a releif. allah/god what ever you believe has a reaason for everything god does i agree with you whole heartedly. that we humans as a human race will pay and suffer for the fact that we allow as a society to have corrupt rulers offer no help which can be given easially. my friend the fact that you are sitting here reminding us all that we are doing nothing at this very second to help poor starving children in africa as well as other people world wide makes you no better then any one else here typing in answers. my husband is from north africa. grant it is north african arab country and not sub sahara where the majorty of the diseases are spread with each passing second but they feel the struggle just as well. the western world definatly has it easier then the majorty of the people in the world. i recoment you to go to africa perhaps join the peace core. you can make a difference. awareness is the key when you go to africa and realize that there are thousands of people world wide (which isn't nearly enough) who flok to these countries in hopes of changing the world get there and the out come from their good intentions can reek a lot of havoc. the countries that are in trouble in sub sahara africa were subject to years of colonization from the western world for hundereds of years upon gaining independence from the western world the west left these people in bitter civil war. this stems from south afrrica to seira lion, to even asia. life is precious world wide. not just in africa. it is not god that has failed the people in this world it is the evil deeds of man of all colors races and religions that have caused such turmoil. living in this country my dear is contributing to the problem. i hate to say a cliche and all but you happen to be fortunate enough to be in this country i persume america where you can make money and help the people that are closes to you. examle haitais. there is nothing stopping you from saving some money and taking a trip to hatai and distributing food to the poor areas around there. good people do not brag about their good deeds. they do them good people lead by example. remember with so many corrupt evil peple in this world you can not change every ones mind into heling the needy god has given us a set of laws to folow. unfortunaly a majority of the world hooses to incorrect path of not helping fellow man kind. good luck. and please remember we are failing god. humanity as a whole it is not the other way around!!!!
