i have $1700 to put down on a car i want to buy from another person. I need a loan of $2500 and I do not mind putting my title on lean with a bank or any financial firm willing to give me a loan. Where is the best place to go for a loan? Whats the best way to go about this??

The best place is your own bank. You must have a checking account or something right? Go there, and ask what are the terms on auto loans. In fact, you can probably setup automatic withdrawal and never have to write a check to pay for the loan.

Also check online. I got my loan online and it was very competitive (at the time) for a used car.

Your credit history and mileage of the car you intend to purchase are the two biggest factors in finding an auto loan for a private sale. I would suggest trying a local bank first... its sometimes nice to have a personal interaction with whom you are borrowing from... and if you know that the mileage is low enough and credit is solid, go for the online loan and get the lower interest rate... keep in mind before committing to anyone, that you might be able to print the page and bring it into a bank and see if they can match or beat the rate. Hope this helps and congratulations on the near purchase of your vehicle.

I recently purchased a car from a dealer and got a loan through Capitalone auto online... the dealer could not touch the interest rate they offered me.. the best that they could do was twice the rate.. their finance person later told me that those online offers he can never get close to them.
