This is the best page I know of covering derailleur adjustment.

Covers both rear and front. Scroll down until you reach the front section

If you haven't the patience visit a good bike shop. It will only cost a few bucks.

Between this and the brakes - would you REALLY trust your LIFE on this rig..?

What else can happen that you ARE NOT seeing! I bet if you put the front wheel between your knees and tried to twist the handlebar, it would turn without the front wheel moving at all...

Just an observation from many years in the business. The Brakes and Derallieurs are the least of your worries at this point... I would take it into a LBS and have them go completely through it, or BETTER YET, take it back to where you got it!

As well as the adjusters on the cable, you have two screws which can be adjusted at the derailier end. I would look at adjusting those. However, this does not bode well for the rest of the set up. I assume it may have been an online jobbie. might be worth taking it to your local bike shop to check over the rest of the set up. However, there are two good sites to have a look at. the first is:

www.mbr.co.uk.

The second is:

www.chainreactioncycles.com

Try the chat rooms.

Luck

Look for two little adjusting screws on the front derailleur. One of them prevents the chain from jumping off the top, the other one off the bottom. Take all the slack out of the cable first, then adjust those two screws

your front derailleur should have a barrel adjuster on the "triggers". turn that until your derailluer stops touching ur chain
