I am looking for the exact quote and talk that Spencer W. Kimball gave where he made the statement 'every honorable young man should serve a mission'. It would be helpful if you could tell me which General Conferance [year, and date] this was given in. I have found so many misquotings of this talk, that it is hard to find the original.

I am currently debating about whether or not I should go on a mission. I have the faith to go, but after prayer, scripture reading, fasting, and everything else possible, I dont feel the call to serve. I am not hearing the still small voice telling me to go on a mission, but rather to study music because I havent been given the chance to hone my talent until this point in my life. And, as I have been told by my bishopric and by several of my teachers, a raw musical talent like mine isnt often found.

So, if you could point me to the talk in which that statement was given, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Well, I went to the Church's website at lds.org and plugged the phrase "every honorable young man should serve a mission" into the site search box. While I didn't spot any conference talks by President Kimball on the subject, among the articles that came up was a New Era magazine article President Kimball wrote in 1973 (whe he was president of the Quorum of the Twelve) titled "Advice to a Young Man: Now Is the Time to Prepare", which talks about preparing to go on a mission.

Hope that helps!

I know the quote that you are referring to ... and I really think that if you went to the official website for the church you could find it....But here is food for thought....if you decide to submit your papers and continue on the path to going on a mission, is your musical talent going to go away? Maybe your opportunities will change, but the talent that the Lord gave you will NOT go away. I have found over the years that when I use my musical abilities to worship and to serve the Lord, the blessings are overwhelming in my life.

You may not feel the call to serve until you receive your call from those in authority to give it to you.

It's actually "every worthy young man"

If you don't feel the call to go, then don't go. You would do a lot better to embrace the true faith of Jesus Christ rather than to further indoctrinate yourself in the LDS faith. It is a good organization that is now finally starting to bear good fruits, but the Church itself is like a wolf in sheep's clothes.

The Church is worth over $30 billion, and pays its General Authorities nearly $100,000 per year in "Living Expense Allowance". This is funny, because their living expenses are actually paid by the Church.

Anyway, you can always decide to go later on if you want to, but once you've given yourself to the mission, it is incredibly difficult to go back.

Then again you have a talent and you can reach many with your music do what feel right to you and heaven father will give you the best answer

Take one step further. Turn you life over to Jesus. repent your sins, find a Church that preaches the Bible and gets involved in the word of God. they only use the Bible as their source and know through Jesus the Truth The Way and the Life. Then if you want to go on a mission you won't be spreading lies.

Say "Hallelujah" to Jesus three times and the answer will appear magically. Then email President Kimball about your fantastic experience.

Every mormon man must go on a mission at his own expense with no expense to the church so they can recruit mnore members to pay a lot of 10% tax free tithes and make the fat prophet fatter.

Every man is called to serve a mission. It is up to you to decide to do it or not.

I'd rather point you to the book of Galatians, which warns against false gospels....that is what Mormonism is. Before you spend years of your life following a false prophet and a false gospel, please get out your bible and look at the warning in Galatians 1:8 and 9.
