Or do you walk around them because it would be too inconvenient to do something?

The last homeless person I found in the street was a woman named Mary and her husband Andy. This was 25 years ago in Grand Junction, Colorado (I live in a small town-there are no homeless).

She was pregnant and had lived in the streets since she was 12. We were panhandling outside a convenience store when the Palisades police showed up. They took us to the local Salvation Army shelter for the night. Andy and Mary refused to stay because they weren't allowed to sleep together even though they were married.

As Mary walked away, I felt a pang of guilt. Here was this homeless pregnant kid (actually, she was 2 years older than me) who needed to eat right and she had no money for it. I called them back and gave them the $50 I had hidden in my shoe. Keep in mind, I was homeless too.

i used to work at a blanket warehouse. and at the end o fthe year we would shred all the blankets that were over 5 years old.

after some convincing we got the wareshoud manager to turn off the security cameras for 1 hour a night so that we could load my van up with blankets then we would take them out and give them to the homeless.

the last time i "bought" a homeless person a blanket was several years ago. i live in a small town and quite simply do not see many. but when i do i either buy them a meal of a coat or something.

The last time I met a homeless person I went to a grocery store and bought her food. It was a very hot summer day and it was someone I had met before, so she had no need for a blanket. I also tried to find her a job, but she did not show up for the interview, even though the place was only 2 blocks away from where she camped out.

Actually last week, and I do keep extra blankets and whatnot in my truck. Yeah, I'm one of those hospitable folks who give food to the homeless too. People think I am nuts because when I see a homeless person I offer to take them out to lunch. You won't believe all the hardships these folk have been though. What is sad is that most homeless folks are mentally ill or they are children. :-(

I used to work in the city and just about every day I'd walk by this same homeless lady. If I saw her while I was on my way to lunch, I'd bring back a sandwich for her. That was about the extent of our interaction.

EDIT:
TWO thumbs down already? hehe
I'm uncomfortable enough talking to people at work, talking to strangers (and I mean all strangers, nit just the homeless) I see on the street (even ones I see on a regular basis) is just . . . I can't do it.
Honestly my strengths do not lie in helping the homeless one on one. My strengths are in what I actually do to help: food drives (organizing and grunt work), blanket/jacket drives, toy drives at Christmas, and Habitat for Humanity
But the question didn't ask about any of that stuff. We don't all have the same gifts you know

I would if I could find any homeless people. I also don't have any money to buy a homeless person a blanket or food which I would also do.

We feed the poor and provide medical care to Aids Orphans, housing and schools. Lots of Churches do this.
