If you can condemn non-belief, you can condemn any belief or degree of belief in your own system. There are over 34,000 sects of Christianity. Which is right? If not yours, are you willing to subject yourself to another? If yours, are you willing to impose yours over the will, rights and beliefs of others as you would not have done to you?

I would rather live where atheism is permissible, in the sense that all beliefs and non/beliefs are permissible.
Your other choice, "condemned", however, is not an opposite to permissible. You can condemn something that is permissible. You should perhaps have said "forbidden". When a society forbids atheism. it may well also forbid some form of Christianity, and eventually the form of Christianity that you practise.
Although seemingly contrary to what we have seen in too many "Christian" societies, Christianity actually promotes tolerance to others, Nothing in the Christian message would encourage us to establish a state forbidding other beliefs.
We are called to be "the salt of the world" and "the light of the world". Well, you don't put salt to flavour a barrel of salt, and you don't use a light to light up what is already light. We are expected to live where there is darkness.

Since I am an Atheist I would prefer to live where it is permissible. Look, you can't ever get rid of it. If they made a law that you had to attend church or death or imprisonment or labor camp, I would probably go. I would sit there and I would go through the motions. Then at night, me and the other Atheist would meet up at night to bring the government down so that everybody can have free will in their beliefs. If you are truly Christian, and you say god gave us free will, you should agree, that Atheism should not be banned.

I would always rather live where people are free to believe as they will, without suffering condemnation or ill-treatment for it.
If you were an atheist living in a place where it was condemned, you would simply be forced to lie about your beliefs, which I don't believe does anything to foster a healthy society. Your chances of CHANGING a persons beliefs would be very slim, so if they are not harming others, they should be allowed to believe as they will.
Having said this, if an athiest were to be bashing down doors of churches and religious places and trying to spread their "word of truth", this wouldn't be acceptable either, naturally. Not sure I've heard of any doing that though!

permissible- though I am a believer- God does not force anyone to believe , neither should I . you cannot force someone to believe or think anything- banning atheism does not make one not an atheist. They could go to church for the rest of their lives and say whatever they think you want them to say but this does not tell the condition of their heart- you cannot ban a belief. Each person has the right to choose who or what they will follow- it does not make it the truth, but they have the right to believe a lie if they choose.
Unfortunately- many atheists I have encountered want to be free to disbeleive but they would be happy to see and even work towards having Christianity banned, churches shut down and Bibles burned.

I'd prefer to live where it's allowed. Yes, I don't agree with atheistic views, but if the place where I lived condemned the beliefs of one type of religion (as religion is what you believe about deity, spirits, hereafter, etc., and atheists believe that those don't exist), then who's to say that eventually *my* beliefs won't be next on the no-no list? And if certain religious beliefs start being condemned, who's to say that other viewpoints won't follow?

Well, I am a pagan so I would prefer to live where atheism is permissible. I prefer the celebratory nature of life as opposed to being told by someone that what I believe, whatever that may be, is wrong.

Where athiesm is permissable. Why? Because if it is condemned somewhere, chances are, believing what you choose will be rather restricted. People should believe what feels right to them. Atheism can be one of those things as much as anything else.

Based on my beliefs, which is Buddhism, atheism is permissible and highly recommended.
Buddha says not to take everything wholesale, use your ears to hear and use your eyes to see. Use your intelligence and wisdom to determine which are the truth and which are deceptions. Try to questions everything and find an answer to your questions before accepting it. Do not blindly believe. Thus this is the true sons and daughters of buddhism.
:D ...... Actually, I questioned a lot of question in buddhism before I come to the conclusion :D .....
