I am asking because my brother is interested in the Coast Guard, but he has two misdemeanors on his record. And please don't just tell me to talk to a recruiter. lol.

Thanks!

You may not like the answer, but you really do need to talk to a recruiter as it's the recruiter who will make the decision whether or not to pursue letting your brother enlist.

He doesn't even have to go to the recruiting office, just call 877-NOW-USCG and they will put him in touch with the nearest recruiting office where he can discuss the situation further.

It's important to note that unlike the other services, the USCG has not lowered their recruiting standards due to a shortage of candidates.

I don't mean to hit this nail too hard on the head, but everyone else here is right, your age is not a problem but your criminal record is. None of the services (including and especially the Coast Guard) will touch you because of it. You will also probably have a very difficult time getting into ANY law enforcement agency because of it. I realize you have paid your debt to society, and it doesn't make you a bad person, but it DOES show a recent proclivity for a disdain for the law, and that's a no-no in the military and law enforcement communities.

It all depends on what they were and the conditions of his record... if he is under 18 those records are sealed and they may be expunged from his record when he turns 18. The CG is still pretty hard to break into, its the Army that has gone significantly lax in allowing people in. It also depends on how old he was when they occured and what they were if the records aren't sealed or they won't be expunged from his record. There can be a waiver for just about EVERYTHING to join the military. Especially during these times.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aOfrG

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

In Canada a man can pay bribe and take out his record, most of Canadian Judges considering bribe as part of their 'job benefits', in USA, Canadian saying that that judges are more corrupt than Canada, so pay some money to a judge a clean it.

In the other hand most of Canadian Coast Guard involved in import of drugs from Iran and south America, so they would hire with Criminal Record, if record be related to smuggling

Usually misdemeanors don't hold a lot of people from joining the military. Felonies on the other hand can bar a person from joining depending on the degree of the offense and how long ago. Talking to a recruiter would be a good idea though once your brother is 99% sure that he wants to join. Get all the facts he can and make sure he gets everything in writing,

You can now. They've loosened up the rules because of the war in Iraq.
