I am married and my understanding is that I can not fil in a US jointly (1040-NR) tax form. Could we fil in a state (Massachussets) tax form jointly? Would we just need to add up our incomes?

You can file a joint 1040NR. Your spouse will need either an SSN or ITIN to file a joint return and must agree to be taxed by the US. The rule is the same in MA.
