Homologous structures have a similar evolutionary background, but the structures have different forms or functions today. (Example: Venus flytrap traps and cactus spines both evolved from leaves, but they are different now.)

Analogous structures have totally different evolutionary backgrounds, but they have the same sort of structures today. (Example: puffer fish and hedgehogs have spikes for defense, but they evolved these independently of each other.)
