I work in a smaller city, and you get to know the 'regulars'. anyways, earlier today, my brain just 'froze' and i couldn't remeber this guy's last name and he just went off on me, like everyone is suppose to know his name.

And when he told me his last name he the tone he gave me was like 'you better remember it or else'

I wouldn't be that upset because even though it's a smaller town you probably have a lot of customers and it's easy to forget someone's name.

He's an idiot. It doesnt matter how small a city you live in, customers begin to look all the same after a while. But when you forget something about them, like a conversationyou once had with them, they take it so personally. I see hundreds of customers a day and wait on quite a few of them. I cant possibly remember what I once told someone let alone recall thier names.

I can't even remember what I had for lunch, or even IF I had lunch, much less worry about customer names. I'd ask my boss if it is OK to suggest that this guy take his business elsewhere if he insists on verbally abusing you....better yet, the owner should send him an "account closed" note, telling it his because he treated you rudely. THAT is what I would do if I were the owner. Tell the boss! Never know what might happen! Otherwise, just forget it...and make sure you DON'T remember it again....and if he bitches, tell him you don't remember names of people who treat you improperly.

If this had never occurred before, then I would just brush this off. If you continually forget his last name and he's a regular, find some way to remember it (is it a color or reminds you of a landmark or something else?). Also, if there are other people working and you see this gentleman come in, ask someone else to deal with him. If he continues to badger you, report him to your supervisor.

I wouldn't be upset if you forgot my name at all.. this guy is just an idiot!

However if you want to remember his name using the technique some have suggested, such as thinking of something memorable about him, be careful that the next time he comes in you don't say Hi Mr Butthead... :)

They guy was being a jerk. Forget about it. Opps, didn't mean to be ironic. Some people really take advantage of the saying "the customer is always right" and really lord it over the poor counter jockey like you.

I am sure you will remember him next time.

I wouldn't be upset at all, I'm very bad with names myself, I don't expect others to remember mine. I'm one of those people who never even remembers old classmates' names and the like, let alone customers!

He's a jerk.

I have a very hard time remembering names. Rarely get them right.

My brother once could not remember this lady's name, at his business. So, to cover up his faulty memory, he asked her how she spells her last name as he had to write it on the order sheet.

Imagine my brother's surprise as the lady spelled back our own rather unusual last name. She was our aunt. She called him a dumb sh--, too.

He was probably just having a bad day. But you shouldn't have to remember everyone's name just bc you live in a small town.
