It will add value but not enough to cover the cost of installing it. Even an inexpensive molding is going to cost a chunk, material wise, then you have the cost of installation. Now the painters have to come in and finish the molding which includes caulking the top and bottom lines. Now your stuck having to paint the ceiling and walls as well. By the time your done you could have as much as $600.00 to $900.00 in each room. It adds great curb appeal but little value overall. One thing that will add great value and curb appeal, if needed, is a fresh coat of paint. Stick to neutrals. Buyers prefer a blank canvass to work their imaginations on.

In my particular region, yes, it does add value. That information comes from the home appraisers that appraise my new home construction. I have found that crown molding adds value when added to the living areas, kitchen/dining, and the master bedroom/bathroom. On 8 to 9 foot ceilings, I use at least a 4 1/4" crown and for taller ceilings I use a 5 1/2" crown molding.

I don't think it will add value, but it will make for a better sale. A bank wont walk in and say wow you have crown molding,we can give you an extra $5000.00 for this house, but a potential buyer may walk in and say wow i love the crown molding and this is the house for me.

Yes, crown moldings give the house that extra polished look. I would think it would give your house an added edge over others without moldings.

It would, but don't use the same crown molding in every room. Try changing things around.

Depending upon the style and age of the house, it might add a little. It is strictly a cosmetic effect, and depends on the buyers tastes.

TOO MUCH MONEY TO GET WHAT? A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE? USE THE MONEY TO ENHANCE THE LANDSCAPING. J.M.O.
