I live in MA and last year I filed state tax and got some refund. I dont remembering MA sending me 1099G for the refund. I'm wondering if MA send 1099G or not. As I itemized my tax last year I will have to show the state refund as income. but, not sure if I should as I dont have 1099G.

Please let me know if anyone know if MA send 1099G or not. If not then should I include 2005 refund in my income this year.

Is there a way to request a 1099G from MA?

I agree with all, but the amount you include will depend on how much your itemized expenses in 2005 exceeded your standard deduction.

For example:

Refund was $300

Standard Deduction (Married/Joint) $10,000
Itemized Deductions: $10,200
Amount included in income would be $200

This is an unusual situation, but possible

Whether or not they send you a 1099G, you MUST list the refund as income on your Federal return as you itemized last year. The amount of the refund that you must list on this year's Federal return will be on your 2005 MA Form 1.

Yes they do. You should check and see if your itemizing for nothing. If after doing Schedule "A" you are taking the standard deduction then you don't need to include it as income because you didn't need to file a schedule "A".
