A telephoto converter, or adapter tubes are, in their simplest forms, a lens extension that is mounted to a standard or standard zoom lens to increase its focal length. These lenses will usually come in a power, such as 1.5x, that will be multiplied by the maximum focal length of the lens that it is attached to (i.e., a 300mm lenses focal length will be increased to 450mm). This increased focal length allows for a more close up shot. These converters simply screw onto the threaded front of any lens of the same diameter. There are also lenses called teleconverters or doublers that mount between the standard lens and the camera body that produce larger focal lengths than the other types.

A wide angle lens works the opposite from a telephoto lens in that it uses smaller focal lengths to achive a wider angle shot used for landscapes. For a 180 degree perspective shot a fisheye lens is used, but these lenses cause circular distortion which in most cases is a desired effect. The wide-angle converter attaches to the end of a standard lens as well and increases the angle of view at whatever focal length you're shooting at.

A close up lens, or macro lens, can magnify objects by producing a life size image of the object directly to the film plane. This translates to an extreme close up shot.

Most simply, a telephoto lens brings farther away objects closer to you. Think of it like looking through binoculars.

A wide angle lens brings a wider view in to the image. Like when you are taking a photo of some friends, but you can't fit them all in the picture and so you have to step back a few steps to fit them in.

A close up lens allows you to focus on things very close to your camera, like taking a close up shot of a flower.
