Not enough insurgents/terrorists to do a major offensive like Tet was during the Vietnam war. The Tet offensive in Vietnam involved close to a million communists troops. There are only about 30,000 insurgents/terrorists in Iraq.

I don't think so.
The 1968 Tet offensive was a phase 3 operation straight out of Mao's little red book. (I apologize if this is a mis-reading, but it sounds as if you think it was some sort of spontaneous popular uprising--It wasn't). It was mis-timed and was a major defeat for the Viet Cong, who never again were a military threat, and would have been for the NVA, except that people in the US, Walter Cronkite being perhaps the most notable, screwed up their analyses of the thing, and turned a major tactical victory for ARVN and US forces into a major strategic defeat. That happened in the US, not Vietnam.
There is no regular force in Iraq to allow a phase 3 operations, but if they somehow managed to cobble two together (there's no way there would be a unified Sunni/Shiite force), it would be a blessing from a military point of view. At the same time, there's no need for such action, since the anti-war movement here in the US is likely to generate defeat for us in any case.

That's pretty funny. Uh...no. If you have been to Iraq, you would know that will not happen. The Tet offensive was conducted by a regular Army not insurgents.
"The Tet Offensive (January 30, 1968 - June 8, 1968) was a series of operational offensives by the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War."
The fight over there is IED's, small arms fire, and mortars not waves of Army regulars.

No, because the tet offensive was a combined effort by all of the enemy. Right now, there are basically 3 separate parts of Iraq. The Kurds, the Shaii and the Sunni. All three hate each other, and when the US moves into one area, the fighting goes down there, but increases somewhere else. They would never have the desire to band together to kick out the US.

Enlightenment, enlighten thyself. Tet did not drive the US out of Vietnam, the media did together with the misguided youth. I was one then, so I know the lies told back then very well. It wasn't until Ford became president that the Congress cut funding to the South Vietnamese government. Our troops had been moved out for several years. When there was no ammunition to defend itself, South Vietnam fell. The violence perpetrated by the Communists spread to Cambodia via Pol Pot and into Laos, which is still among the poorest nations.
There is still genocide of our former allies in southeast Asia on-going to this day.
It was a cut and run operation by the self-hating Democrats that brought the end of South Vietnam. Could that happen in Iraq? I sure hope not, because I don't want Jihadis in my backyard. I also don't want to see one of the most ancient countries in the world, Babylon/Assyria pounded into dust by all the fighting. The people there deserve a better life and that's what we're trying to help them achieve.

Do yourself a favor and research the Tet offensive. From a military standpoint the US defeated the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army hands down. It was the American media's spin that caused the withdrawal.

The TET offensive in Viet Nam was a devastating military loss for the Viet Cong - but an enormous public relations win for the anti-war zealots in this country.
Why would the left want to repeat this travesty?
Beats me.
And take it from a Viet Nam vet - the TET offensive did nothing to "drive out the US military" - the anti-war moon bats in this country along with the media did that all by themselves - with total disregard for the aftermath.

Perhaps when the troops run out of bullets and bombs because Pelosi and the gang cut off funding a real massacre will happen. It is a shame the alleged leadership of this country resorts to underhanded actions like the funding trick. Every American should feel shame that congress has drifted so far from the principals that made this country.

There's no jungle in Iraq to hide them.
In Korea and Vietnam, an important reason why the opposition could last that long was because they were shielded by dense vegetation.
Iraq is a desert. Pretty sure we all know that by now. They have nowhere to hide, literally and figuretively.

Well the real Tet offinsive failed miserably. The NVA and VC lost almost 100,000 soldiers in 3 days and captured one US base...for 6 hours and were then driven out.
