It depends on how bad the depression is or has been. Are you seeing a therapist or psychiatrist? Have you ever tried to commit suicide? Can you not keep a job due to the depression????? You will have to have a doctor backing you on this for you to be able to get disability on depression.

I have been diagnose with bipolar & I have been fighting to get my diasbility for 2 years now. It is a tough process but the first thing you need to do is gone down to your social security office & tell them you want to file for disability they will give you the paper work to fill out & send back in don't be suprised if you are turned down the fist few times with depression case you will more than likely need to get a lawyer to help you get the disability. Good Luck to you

You should go see a doctor. Is you goal to qualify for disability or to help your depression? I'm not sure of the question. If you want to not be depressed, you likely need a prescription for an anti-depressant. Then you will feel just like the rest of us. Depression is an imbalance in the chemicals in your brain. The medication puts back what is low.
I'm not sure depression qualifies for disability. I would hope that people that are on disability are truly disabled. I don't believe you are with depression.

First you have to be diagnosed by a licensed psychiatrist and they have to help you fill out the proper form. They can also tell you whether or not they think you will qualify. I understand it's very hard to make the qualifications these days. Most of the time people who claim for this have to go through the process 3 times or more.

The most important part is to be medically diagnosed by a doctor. The doctor must submit his/her portion showing medical neccesity as to why you cannot work in order to actually receive disability.

If you can get a statement from your doctor that says you are permanently unable to work because of depression, you can probably get disability.
I work in mental health medical records and I helped a lot of people apply for disability. It seems to be getting harder to get than it used to be, though.

You have to get a doctor to fill in areport about your medical condition and you take the forms to Centrelink and they will probably refer you to a psychologist of their own. They make a report to Centrelink andit may be that they will refer you to services that can help you with other job services for people with severe depression. In the same boat as you.Its actually quite hard to get onto disability pension especially in Australia.

Go to your social security office and file. Also, you can fill out an application on the social security web site. I don't have the web address. Do a google or yahoo search for social security office. You can get the web address that way.

Your doctor must be willing to indicate you are unable to work due to your depression. Once that has been established call disability and they will guide you.

Anything that prevents or hinders you from working can be classified as a disability. A physician's certification is needed, and there are various legal hurdles that have to be negotiated.
