He gave the new commandment after washing the disciples feet. He said, "Now I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13,34-35).
This commandment is different from the commandment to love our neighbour. It is specifically addressed to disciples of Jesus. I call it Jesus' strategy for the growth of Christianity. The disciples followed this commandment (Acts 2,42) to the letter that's why Christianity grew by leaps and bound in the first century. Jews and pagans said, "see how they (Christians) love each other." Is it any wonder that Christianity is not growing very much today? Non-Christians now say of us: "See how they hate each other; how they destroy each other."
Peace and every blessing!

He did Not give any New Commandment.
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destry but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one titles shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled'.
What does the above verse mean? He had not come with any new laws or commandments; he came only to fulfil the old law, the law of Moses.

I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves. John 13:34-35

Jesus reduced the 10 to just two:
1. Love GOD.
2. Love (respect/treat) yourself as you love GOD.
(As I remember this, sorry I'm not using exact wording.)

That command is in The bible read all of this please its a command from one who IS love Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
10:28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
10:29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
10:30 And Jesus answering said, A certain [man] went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded [him], and departed, leaving [him] half dead.
10:31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
10:32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked [on him], and passed by on the other side.
10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion [on him],
10:34 And went to [him], and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
10:35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave [them] to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
