Rain tires wouldn't work well on an oval: they'd wear too quickly. Goodyear generally brings them to the road courses if there's a chance of rain. Actually, in all the years now that they've had them, rain tires have only been used once that counted for anything, & that was a practice session in the Truck series the last year they ran at The Glen. The trucks were also equipped with a brake light & a single windshield wiper. I was there, working pit wall, & can tell you: it was a sight to be seen. Todd Bodine on the front straight, full bore in a downpour, throwing roostertails over 100 feet behind his truck. Absofreakinglutely awesome!

Normally if the race is over half way it is called after an hour?
But hey I'd rather be in my home during a rain delay than at the track.
And no rain tires would not work on the ovals, road course maybe but not the ovals.
That's all I have to say about that.

You can't race on ovals in the rain, no matter what tires you use. I am waiting to see if they ever get the chance to race in the rain on a road course. That will be fun to watch if it ever happens. Rain delays can be fun sometimes, if they are short.

I don't really get irritated with the rain delay itself, but more of the jet drying process on the track. It seems like the tracks need more jet dryers to get the race back on faster. I like the rain portion of it because it keeps the race exciting and almost always the race car must adapt to the track. It seemed like the COT worked really well today after the rain hit.

No. There are usually only one or two rain delays a year. It is not safe to race on the wet track. Today's was very short since the track is so small. You should be happy about that.

yeah...the rain delays suck but what can we do about it? The rain delay yesterday made the race run over is allotted amount of time and my tivo didn't record the end...that sucked but I saw the unfortunate ending anyway

Yeah , I'm not sure if they ever talked of using rain tires on short tracks or ovals, on road courses they have.

Well what good would rain tires do with WINDSHIELD WIPERS!! There's too many openings in the car that can't be closed up for safety reasons. Driving 150 mph and over in the rain with guys all around you is not a smart idea. If you think it is, then you're a "DEE-DEE-DEE!"

In a way I think they shouldn't have them but I guess they are okay because during the rain dealys they talk to the drivers and you get all the information on how the track is and everything.
