I have tried all the "grocery store" flea products for my dog and cats, and I hate to tell ya, but I would not count on it working. Frontline has been the only thing that has worked on my long haired Aussie (it is pretty expensive though and still only works a month). But to answer your question, you should wait a few days (3-4) before letting him get wet. The more often he gets wet, the less time it will work. After you put it between his shoulder blades, it gets absorbed into the outer layer of skin and when the fleas and ticks bite him, they are killed.
I have talked with quite a few people at my vet office, the same office that sells me the frontline (go figure?), and they have told me that some dogs have severe reactions to the chemical flea treatments, and the can be deadly to cats, so if you have cats make sure you read the packaging carefully. After doing some research, I discovered Dawn. Yes the dish washing soap! It will kill the fleas and eggs on the dog at the time, and it is non-toxic. And your dog smells really good. My dog has skin allergies, and he hasn't had any trouble with it effecting his skin at all yet, and we have been using it for about a year. The local dog shelter here also uses Dawn to wash their dogs. It does require washing your dog more often, I ususally wash him when I discover fleas again. But with summer coming, it is a treat for him to get washed because it cools him down.
I hope this was some help for you. I know what a pain fleas can be, literally!

I dont know about Hartz but the Frontline and K9 Advantix I use last for 30 days and it says not to get your dog wet for 3 day after application after that it's ok to get them wet.
Hartz is not a good brand of flea prevention go and get some Frontline and then the clerk can tell you everything you need to know.

Do NOT use this flea product or any other OTC flea product on your dog!!!! OTC flea meds, especially Hartz can cause , serious burns at application site, neurological issues, seizures and death. I can't tell you the number of pets we have seen at the hospital that have been harmed or even killed by these products.

why did you waste your money? use frontline or advantage for your dog, it is the only stuff that keeps fleas and ticks off your dog and it is waterproof. You also need heartworm prevention. do you have your dog on that? go to your vet.

id actually recomend you wash that crap off your dog right now! the ingredient in there is vet proven to NOT kill fleas and it causes seizures and deaths in cats and dogs hartzvictims.org i believe the site it. last year they were responsible for over 8000 animals deaths. that stuff is horrible. spend the extra bux for frontline plus, a product that is SAFE and actually WORKS.
www.hartzvictims.org....read all the testimonials. even if your dog doesnt get sick, why would you want to support a company that KNOWs they are killing animals with their product that they know doesnt work...and does nothing about it?!

I would never use those products, they are toxic to dogs! Wash it off quickly.
Products you can buy from your vet's office are much safer and more effective.

give it about a day or two to let it dry, if he gets wet in that time period it might get wiped off or smeared, dobies are good dogs, nice choice.
