I already know the ethical answer for this one, so just please give me the legal one. We just dumped 2 bags of paper trash in a dumpster in a new neighborhood - I think they were builder dumpsters (no one lives in the new part yet - houses aren't finished). While leaving, a man starting running towards us like a mad man. We left and he pointed to his phone and us.

I am assuming he's going to call the police.

We are in Texas.

Would they send us a ticket or sue us for criminal trespass without actually seeing the "crime" itself? He actually didn't see any trash going in (although I know that's a technicality and not an ethical solution). He just saw my husband walking to the truck. Although I know that we should have stopped and explained - I honestly think my husband was a tad frightened of the man's demeanor.

What you did was illegal dumping. It costs hundreds of dollars to empty one of those dumpsters and he doesn't want to pay that for your stuff.

If he got your license number OR any of your information was in the papers you threw away; you might be getting contacted by law enforcement about it.

First, how do you know the man didn't see you dumping trash in their dumpster?
Second, dumping trash in the dumpsters IS a crime.
Third, unless an officer knocked on your door the same day, I doubt anything will actually happen.

I would not worry about it but I would not dump trash there anymore. even if he did call the cops I don't think that this would be a big priority and they would just log the call. I dumped trash a couple of times in a church dumpster and I got a letter from the pastor of the church asking me to stop. when I think of what he had to dig through to find my name it makes me sick. Ha Ha

I doubt the police would care, but you should know if it is not your dumpster don't dump in it. People have to rent the dumpsters and that is why they become angry when other people use them.

The citizen would have to make the arrest because it was not committed in the Police officer's presence. If there is any evidence the Police could charge it. Evidence-Witness-Confession.

Tickets aren't sent in the mail. And no one is going to file a trespass suit for something this minor as it would cost too much.

Actually they have your trash for evidence if they really wanted to. I would guess there would be a letter, junk mail, something that said who you were ??

We used to find alot of people from thier trash back in my day.
