My sister called me a few hours ago and told me she wanted to go on a diet. She asked me if I knew just how many calories she was allowed to eat per day. I didn't have the slightest idea.

Can anyone help? I asked her if I could post it here and she said it was fine. She is almost 300 lbs, and has no problem giving up all bread like foods and dairy. (Poor gal) How many calories a day is she allowed?

Any help I can give her would be great. Thanks in advance

She should do the following.......

1. Start a food log
2. Calculate her BMR (how many calories she burns per day)
3. Start a gradual exercise plan...start with walking 20-30 minutes per day.

The link below has a lot of free resources & tools. Hope that helps.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

It depends really on her weight and height at the moment, i wouldn't say going under more then 1200, but if you did go to 1200 only stay at that for like a week, thats the lowest, but i would say try have at least 1500? also make sure she picks the right foods. Also excersise is a good thing to. I only used to eat 150cal a day, and it just made me very sick. So make sure she gets enough nutrition.

I am not too sure, but I believe that diets are usually about 1000-1500 calories. Correct me if I'm wrong... which someone will...
