I ask this, because there was a really sad article in the local newspaper about two young teenage girls who were killed by a cop in a high speed chase.

I've seen more cops killed by jackass citizen drivers than the other way around.

If someone raped your mother and was fleeing from the police would you want them to just say "Ahh its not worth driving fast to catch this guy?"

More often than not, innocent people are not harmed by high speed chases. The only reason it is such a big deal is because every high speed chase that ends in disaster is reported by the news. These are usually less than 30 deaths a year. Meanwhile the criminals they are chasing kill thousands and if they are not caught, are free to break the law and possibly kill more.

Many law enforcement agencies frown on high speed chases, for that reason. But you still get the dumb *** cops who would rather take the chance of chasing a guy at 120 miles per hour through a crowded city street or a neighborhood full of kids.

Because if they stopped chasing everyone, then it would give criminals free reign to do anything they wanted to do. Feel like robbing a bank? No problem! Just jump in a car and drive away at high speed. Home free!
Murder, assault...no problem! Just jump in your car and drive away scott free.
Please...thats an idiotic idea.
Besides that, these people who run are being pulled over for improper lane changes, speeding, expired registration etc.
Minor traffic violations! So why would any decent law abiding citizen run when a cop puls them over for speeding? The answer is THEY DON'T RUN! The guy being pulled over for failure to obey a stop sign and then taking off when the cops try to pull them over is probably drunk, high, has warrants, is on parole/probation, is wanted for other crimes, has drugs/drug paraphenalia in the car, etc.

It's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. People should be able to hear the sirens from a pretty good distance, that is why you are supposed to pull over and not walk into the street if you hear sirens.

Also, if police stopped chasing, then it would give criminals the ok to run and get away. It's sad that tragedies happen, but people need to be more aware of what is going on around them when walking across the street.

I like the answer...cops didn't kill them, the perp did LOL. That rhymes with People don't shoot people, guns do.

It's a catch 22, do you want the criminals caught or not? Many states and cities restrict chases now, to a certain speed limit (85 mph for some) once speeds exceed the limit, they are supposed to discontinue chase, and attempt to use radio or helicopters if available.

It's very rare for someone to be killed by a COP in a high speed chase. When it does happen, the victim is usually injured or killed by the idiot who is fleeing from the police.

Are the police supposed to let him go? He would probably be driving recklessly either way.

Your exceedingly stupid, are not you. Why ought to someone get 25 to existence for an "coincidence".. in case you recommend they killed someone, at the same time as they merely meant to "F them up a touch" or "they were using like assholes and they killed someone" . Then, they might get 25 to existence. i do not study the different injuries that would in good structure that class. Even homicide by technique of automobile merely consists of 3-5 years in maximum states. the protection rigidity ought to no longer even been into interest. you comprehend no longer some thing about war. 1000's of 1000's of non-warring parties die in each and every war. you want to strengthen up a lot earlier you communicate war, or a delightful fireplace incident. you merely don't comprehend how very fortunate you're to stay in a rustic the position there has no longer been a war fought on your community soil for very almost one hundred and fifty years. If the police have self assurance that someone is going to heavily damage or kill them or some different person, they have the criminal proper to apply deadly rigidity in self protection. see you later as that perception became valid, they did no longer some thing incorrect. If the police are in any respect careless or reckless, then cop will be punished. At a minimum, he will lose his interest, and if his action became criminal, he will be arrested, like each and everybody else. comprehend what you're speaking about earlier you spout off one of those bullshit.

It is never the intention of a Police Officer to injure anyone during a chase, but it is really hard to catch someone driving slow.
