Broken blood vessels inside the nose. Ice or compressing the nostrils will stop it. Avoid tilting your head back as that can lead to blood draining into your breathing system.

Many reasons but the most frequent could be the veins in the nos are close to the surface and weak. This can be remedied by cortorisation, a long ''match'' with a chemical to seal the veins by a chemical burning. This works as I have had it done myself and used to suffer badly. It's moderately painful but very worth it, quick and free on the NHS

Consider maria m's answer-it could very well be high blood pressure. hold yhour head back and use an ice pac if that doesn't stop it but meantime, you should consider checking with a dr. if it occures more than once.
