Meditation is the act of stilling the conscious mind. Or in simpler terms, learning how to shut up and concentrate on just one thing....over and over. If that one thing is a question, then the person should soon begin to see or hear the answer to the question, internally. That is the subconscious mind's way of talking to the body, which is what your brain is a part of.

You can use meditation to view most things that you personally have encountered, both past, present, and future.

Regards,

Chris

Take a walk. Feel the swing of your arms, feel the blood rush to your fingertips. Feel the texture of the pavement underneath your toes, through your shoes.
Walk a little faster than your normal shuffle. Walk with a purpose, to get the the next corner, the next stoplight.

Just walk, and watch. As thoughts rise up through your mind, re-focus on the crunch of the pavement under your toes. Feel the light sweat on your back.

Try and walk for half an hour if you can. Longer if you have time.

And if you start doing this every day, or every other day, or every week on the same day at the same time, you will get
many benefits.

Meditation can take many other forms, but the guiding idea is to find yourself in the present. This might be an easy way to start.
Godd luck.

This is from the Wikipedia...
Meditation is usually defined as one of the following:
1) a state of relaxed concentration on the reality of the present moment
2) a state that is experienced when the mind dissolves and is free of all thoughts
3) "concentration in which the attention has been liberated from restlessness and is focused on God."[6]
4) focusing the mind on a single object (such as a religious statue, or one's breath, or a mantra)
5) a mental "opening up" to the divine, invoking the guidance of a higher power
6) reasoned analysis of religious teachings (such as impermanence, for Buddhists).
As for how you acheive a meditative state, it varies from person to person, sometimes relaxing music can work, for others sitting quietly amongst nature is the key.
You will know you are there when you are at peace, as cliched as that may sound.

Everyone meditates, even you. It's when you dwell on something for a length of time, no matter what it is. You were meditating on words when you wrote your question, on how you were going to word it, on the question itself when it popped into your mind. If you are implying on positive meditation that is when you dwell on in out come that you particularly want.

Meditation is usually a state of deep focus, designed for relaxation and concentration. For example, one might meditate on the existence of suffering, the path to enlightenment, or simply on one's own breathing patterns.

Mediating is a art. As it is form of relaxation.
I mediatate and I will sit and do breathing exercises.
I will also do aroma therapy that I have learned years ago which is very helpful for relieving stress.
I also will draw a warm bath and put some lavendar oil in as the lavendar is very relaxing and soothing. I will have candles of the lavendar scent and soft music when I take my bath for total relaxation.
If you have children it would be a great time to do the bath after the kids are in bed.

Something i can't seem to do...

Really you could do everything they say to do when meditating and you'll just feel like your sitting there breathing heavily with your eyes closed! You'll feel nothing.

It is the opposite of praying. It is listening instead of speaking. It is making an open atmosphere within to make listening easier. And to make the spirit of the Lord more accessible to yourself. The Lord gives freely...all you have to do is ask.
