There's no real way to stop yourself from going for those foods when you're not hungry. You need to have will power and just tell yourself no.

Find out what triggers your emotional eating and work to avoid that trigger. And in the meantime eat 5-6 well balanced small meals with protein to prevent yourself from getting too "stomach" hungry

If you think it's just "mouth" hunger, as you call it, try chewing a piece of sugarless gum. That should help calm that craving. If it's real hunger, then you'll feel it in your stomach.

Try drinking a glass of water first. Don't use soda as it won't quench your thirst. Ice is good in it to give you something to chomp on.

If you need flavor, try a squirt of real lemon juice. You can also drop a frozen strawberry in the glass. This is all still really low calorie.

Occasionally you'll develop a craving because your body needs something. Try putting salt in your palm and licking it to see if it's salt you need. Do the same with a bit of sugar. Once you have eliminated those, ask yourself what really sounds good: meat, vegetables, a salad, or pasta. That's probably what your body needs.

Oh, munchies that are satisfying and low calorie: carrots, grapes, and celery. Frozen grapes are especially nice. Just let them melt in your mouth.

there isn't really one key thing to do. but what I try to do is imagine how I will feel after I have eaten food, guilty or satisfied. If it is the latter then I will eat it in moderation and if it is the first one, then I walk away and busy myself doing something else.

When you feel "mouth hunger", just drink water, and don't eat unless you feel/hear your stomach rumble.
