I am wanting to get a sleep number bed and was wondering if I should just wait until after I move to get it or if I could get away with an adapter if needed?

American appliances will require an adapter to work anywhere in Europe. If an equivalent device is sold in Scotland, you are better off buying it there. This will also save the cost of shipping the item overseas.

It depends. Most laptops and other electronic devices (like charging an ipod) will work with with a simple adaptor on the plug which you can buy at any airport.

However mechanical divices like hairdryers are not really safe to use in different systems with different volts and amps. The motors burn out even if it seems like they're working OK at first.

I don't know how a sleep number bed works, but I'd bet part of it is mechanical which would indicate to me you should wait. Which is too bad, I'm an American living in England and stuff here is so much more expensive...

An alternative is to get a voltage converter. They are a bit expensive and sometimes a bit bulky, but possibly overall money saving compared to getting the whole bed here!

Good luck and safe travels.

100% You would find excellent quality stabilized Voltage / Frequency converters in Scotland. The size of the adapter depends on the power usage: for more than 100 Watts it will be quite a heavy transformer.

Hertz and voltages are totally different in America than Scotland my guy has lived there. He says its much cheaper to use stuff made for that country. No adapters either.
So just buy when you get there.
Have fun its a lovely country.
