im 16 years old. i molved in wioth my grandmother at 11. ever since then she has been cramming the idea of church into my head.she basically tried to raise me to believe that if you dont go to church, you go to hell.you have to dress up, and you have to sing all the songs. i visited this other church and no one dressed up and everyone was a true believer. they were really good people. and i the church that i go to is horrible, no offense. they repeat things over and over, sing endless songs, basically we do the same thing every sunday. we always have to dress up, and if you dont, you will be stared down like you have absolutly nothing on. theres no people my age, all of them are well over thier 60s!
i really dont enjoy going to church, but i am a true believer of god. Going to this church makes me wnat to not learn anything about god, which makes me feel horrible. isnt church supposed to make you feel good?this church i go to makes me wanna scream.

This is a complex situation. I'll try to answer best I can.

I was raised Catholic. When I was 16, I rebelled against the Catholic doctrines, having a glimmer of the truth revealed to me by a priest, no less. I still went to church with my parents, but I was no longer mentally present at the service.

When, years later, I discovered greater truths from the Bible, God also led me to his Church. It was very different from the the Catholic ritualistic mass (similar to what you describe). One of the truths revealed in the Bible, that is, from God, is that getting together with others of his people is important to spiritual growth -- it is the fastest way to learn the will of God. God's people help each other to learn, and grow and get by in the world. And it is just great to be with them.

Your situation is a difficult one, there's no argument about that. I remember my grandmother making life difficult for me, concerning church. And even if I knew more of the specifics of your situation, I don't know if I could offer any advice other than: Pray to God, and ask him to help you out of your trouble; and, don't give up. God wants us to persevere through our troubles, and trust in him always.

Hi Sabby,
I have been to many churches. The one I now go to is more "contemporary". I would ask your Grandmother to take you to the church that you like. Ask her to have an open mind and see if the Word is taught.
I don't see dress important, if you do it unto the Lord. A lot of churches are deep in tradition, and don't want to change. I believe when some of the hymns came out that they must have caused a stir... as they were modern. I like the modern type of services that are more relaxed, but the Word of God must be taught.

Bless your heart - baby
no - you are saved through Jesus Christ, not what church you attend or how you dress-
Pray for the Lord to guide you and ask your grandmother to let you attend a different church with some friends-

The word of God says you can only believe if you have "faith" and how you get faith is hearing the word of God - and how you hear the word of God is going to church listening to a pastor read it or preach it to you -
make sure everything you hear or see at church or radio or in person -

make sure you check it in the bible !
the word of God bible- is the only "TRUTH" you should depend on and follow.

Lord Jesus, i come to you right now and ask that you help this daughter of yours in her time of need - she wants to serve you and learn about you - please guide her in the way she should go and Lord go before her and make ready her guardian to accept change for her to attend a church body that she can enjoy worshipping you in , God let this child know you love her no matter what clothes she has on - but rather what kind of person she surrenders herself to be in your name . Use her for your good Lord,
In Jesus name , amen

sabby, even if your grandmother is stern*
God can do anything- and prayer gets God attention!

You probably are going to the wrong church.

We are required to go to church as christians. We are not required to dress up. I hear your frustration because I am in a similar situation.

Talk to your grandmother and see if it is okay with her to go to the other church. Going to a "dead" church can be very hard for your spiritual well-being (not saying that that church is dead).

Believe what you want, a church is just a building like any other.
