Really depends on what "the other crap is". I don't think a person claiming there to be a higher being is too high on the list because that would not say a whole lot. Anotherwards they seem too wishy-washy.

I would call him someone who has seen the hypocrisy of the Church for what it is, hasn't yet been corrupted or won't allow to be corrupted by the lies he has "witnessed" in all of the false man-made religions on earth that he has come to know.
They are a disgusting thing to God anyway and in refusing to participate in their lies, you may be way closer to the true God, who just might, through the force of His own spirit, one day, open your eyes and heart to the only, only book on earth that claims divine inspiration, the book of letters He inspired his servants to write for us to get to know Him and His wonderful plan for us all and the undying love He has for us, until He sees fit to step in and end the stupidity on earth before it destroys us all.

They are smart people. If intelligent civilizations have been able to reach our plant and we are not able to reach theirs, then they are a higher power. Not as hostile as humans , but never the less, a higher power.
