Yes it does, but not as much as some people make it out to be.

Green tea helps you lose weight because it contains catechins, caffeine and theanine. These compounds interact with each other when consumed and promotes weight loss, much more than individually alone.

Any high quality green tea will have an optimum level of these chemicals. In fact, loose-leaf green harvested using very young tea shoots have the most of these beneficial chemicals.

Green tea extract has catechins too. Compared to drinking green tea, it has three disadvantages:

* Green tea has more than 200 bioactive compounds, and scientists are increasing finding them they are synergistic. Green tea extract contains mainly catechins, so you are missing out on the other bits.

* Its health benefits are less studies, especially over the long term, than drinking green tea.

* You don't know the quality of the green tea that goes into making the extract. This is an increasing concern as low quality green tea may suffer from enviromental pollution, a concern for those who consume large quantity of the extract.

I hope it helps. The first link below contains a study that shows green tea extract helps lose weight.

The second link discusses further why loose-leaf green tea is the optimal for getting green tea health benefits.

I hope it helps.
