To understand why, we need to understand what are messengers. They are 'middle men' not only to tell people what God wants, but show by their actions how exactly to fulfill what God wants. We can safely say, messengers are living examples of the commandments.

the idea of the middle man comes from Zorostrianism, and christianity liked it so much they stole the concepts.
