Consumer Reports recommends the Schwinn 418 (about $1000) or Pro Form 700S (about $500)as a best buy for the money. I could not find any measurements though of the overall size. Why not contact the manufacturer and ask? I have posted the links here for the companies. You can contact them toll free or via email (provided on site).

Things to look for:
stride length (some are small which won't work for a normal height person)
adjustable incline
get one with arm motion (handles that move so they are being exercised also)
noise level (you probably won't like something really noisy)
adjustable resistance so you continue to get a workout when the current level becomes too easy
safety features
a good warranty
