so i bought a new deck to put in my '99 mazda protege. i went on bestbuy.com and did the fit check for the deck i wanted. and it said it fit, so do i not need a kit to install now or what?

id like to add i havent tried installing it by myself, im just making sure i dont need to buy anything else before taking it to my friend who said he'd install it for me.

A single-DIN head unit should fit that vehicle without a kit. You will still want to use an adapting wire harness to make the wiring easier.

Edit: You don't have to buy a kit, but you should buy a wire harness like this one:

This is the only accessory you will need for the installation. DO NOT allow your friend to cut off the factory plugs. A wire harness allows you to install a new radio without cutting factory wires.

You should buy a wiring harness for your car. It's best because there is no need to cut the factory wires, if someday your deck is stolen is better that the thief just disconnect the harness and take the deck without destroying your dash, and your factory wires. Trust me on this matter, that just happened to me. It was a pain i the a@#$ to replace the factory dash wiring.

You will not need to buy a kit of any kind. If your having trouble installing the new deck yourself, take it to an auto electrician and they will fit it no problems.
