There's all kinds of drugs. A person could try marijuana and have a lot of fun, smoke it a few times and never want to do it again, or they could try crystal meth or cocaine and become addicted almost instantly until their life is destroyed. Every drug and every person is different. Some are extremely bad combinations.

People try marijuana 99% of the time I think when they are drunk. Some people try it because they know people who function quite well smoking pot once in a while, but most are drunk when they start and just say "what the hell". The good news is that very few people get addicted to it, cigarettes and crystal etc... are much worse for that.

In my experience about 1/2 of the people who smoke pot just smoke pot, do it in moderation, and have productive lives. You would never know who these people are because they do not stand out.

THe other half do it because of other problems and get stoned all the time and lose motivation to achieve their goals. That can be harmful, but usually theses people have underlying problems that were much more serious than their pot habit and find that they can quit if they run out. They usually don't stay on pot long and switch to drugs that make them feel even more "checked out."

But I can't really say for those other drugs because I've never hung around with friends who would do cocaine or crystal or heroin or anything like that, unlike the other answerers who know nothing from experience and post anyway.

Leave them for good. Find new friends who don't and talk to your parents about them. They do drugs because for many different reasons, to get high which they think are fun to be on, or got pressured into it or introduce to it. Yet, they could end up being your worst friends when they start stabbing you in the back, steal from you and other people, to buy more drugs to get high because of addiction. They need professional help to get off drugs. If they do go to the same school as you, you should tell your principal and remain anonymous for you safety which they may hurt you for ratting them out. Drugs do get better of people which may become violent and dangerous especially if they are from a gang. Again, yes stay away from them unless they want help getting off the stuff by introducing them to professionals who handles drug addicts. Good Luck.

Why? Curiosity first, then fun, then social acceptance, then physical or mental need.

It's tough to get off drugs, been there, done that.

What to do? Unless they tie you down and force you, you won't get hooked unless you let yourself. The simple answer is just stay away from them and that whole situation. Get some new friends, you can't help them until they help themselves. Most druggies never amount to anything anyway and you'll never succeed or improve by hanging with them. So just stay away and be a better person.

You answered your own question. Get away from them and make new friends who are not dope heads. Curiosity is the instigator of the drug habit. People are willing to experiment, and find they like to get high. So they keep on doing it, and as they become more and more addicted, it takes more and more drugs or stronger drugs to get the high. Then they are in deep trouble. You're smart to recognize that your companions are a bad influence. So stay away from them and you won't be tempted. Good luck, dear.

People do drugs because they cannot handle normal life. Normally its to block things out that have happened to them or to make them feel good (For as long as the drug lasts) about their lives.

Its tough because you have a friend who is getting addicted, you have to disassociate yourself from them slowly. When the friend has cleaned themselves up (If they ever do) they will be the nice person you met at the start of your friendship.

There is only one way with drugs and thats a downward spiral. The user cannot see it at the time but will have to reach rock bottom before they see the light.

Good luck to you

Hi,

people 'do' drugs for a number of reasons.

Firstly they ALL think they can control their use (though they never can)

Secondly they get a 'high' the first time they use a drug. This 'high' is rarely repeatable and they have to take more and more of the particular drug to get the effect they first experienced.

Thirdly, They are pushed into using them by their friends, who encourage them to 'just try it' (This is, of course, the dreaded 'peer pressure'.)

Fifthly, and lastly...because they are stupid.

Why should anyone seek to live their lives 'out of control'? Using drugs makes your personal control level dip and eventually any user will find that he/she can't function without the drug.

As the cost continues to rise (because of the inevitable greater quantity used each time) financial losses occur, often leading to thefts and/or other crimes to enable the user to get more drugs.

I would suggest you try your damndest to get away from this group of 'friends' and find new ones (if you can't you'll still be better off on your own than mixing with that group of losers.)

However much they may try to persuade you DO NOT RISK it...it WILL lead to greater usage and can be very difficult to get away from.

Good luck,

BobSpain

You can't get hooked on drugs unless you want to. People usually do it because they're unhappy with some aspect of their life. You should stay away from those friends, because if you're with them if/when they get arrested, you could get in trouble. Possession of any controlled substance, in most states, is a felony.

People do drugs because of the sensation that it gives them. They try to get the high that they first got, the first time they did it. try hanging out with new friends, or only hang out with your other friends if you know there not going to do it. Stay strong say no. You don`t want to end up like them.It is not the life to live. Good luck!

dont hang around drugs or drug people. They will drag you down. They are always broke and waiting for their next high. They take it at first because they think its cool but then they become hooked on the high and are miserable from then on unless they are high again. Be freindly but stay away from them.
