Seriously, BCE is "Before Common Era". CE is "Common Era".
BCE is the same thing as BC, only with a different name, and CE is the same thing as AD, only with a different name.
2000 BC = 2000 BCE
2000 AD = 2000 CE.

Since not all of the world is Christian, some people prefer to use a dating system that isn't Christian either.
It would be way too awkward to change the numbers, so we use different letters. CE (common era) = AD (anno domini, year of our lord). BCE (before the common era) = BC (before Christ).
Completely convertible. It's just about the outlook of the writer.

The BCE (Before Common Era) is used to remove the assumption that there was a Christ (As opposed to Before Christ) in an effort to separate religion from history. AD (After Death (of Christ) or Anna Domini) is rereplaced by CE (Common Era). So, BCE=BC, CE=AD...I hope that clears it up for you.

The subtleness of this is really ingenious, the PC brigade have by changing the time honored BC to BCE, have effectivly removed the Holy name of Christ at the stroke of a pen, BC meaning before Christ(Came) is now BCE meaning before Christian era, and not only that it seems to imply that Christianity is a thing of the past as well.
Many Christians even have never really noticed this themselves as we all live in times that anything goes and all is acceptable, what a shame!

CE refers to Common Era, and is what used to be called AD or Ano Domini (the year of our lord.) CE is a secular way of recording dates and is what is commonly used in modern scholarship.
BCE refers to Before Common Era, and is what used to be called BC, Before Christ. Again, the secular equivalent.
100BC and 100BCE are the same, as are 100AD and 100CE.

BCE is "Before Christian Era" CE is "Christian Era" . This makes non-Christians feel better. AD is the same as CE, BC is same as BCE.

AD=CE
BC=BCE
You can't put BC/BCE in AD. You can put BCE/BC in AD, however.
5 BCE is -5AD.
But you're only going to see this in obscure Latin texts in phrases like "King Bob ruled from -10 to 30AD."

You mean CE/BCE -- Common Era, Before Common Era.
It's less ethnocentric.
