i have read this story on this site many, many times. i would first like to point out that it is not up to the psychiatrist to sign papers, to allow him to give you medications against your will, but usually the psychiatrist has to prove to a court, that you need medication, and it is the court that gives the orders to treat, not the psychiatrist/ the psychiatrist has to follow the court order. smoking some pot, can sometimes cause some problems, but not enough that you have to be admitted, and treated against your will. if you feel you were unjustly treated, some times a hospital has patient advocate, that can act on your behalf. lawyers may not want to help you because they know, getting some one treated against their will is not easy, because it is a court decision, and there has to be definite proof that this action is really necessary.

Yes, drugs mess with your mind, but I think there is more to this story that you are not telling. You always have the right to refuse medication and the court will not keep you in a mental institution unless you are a danger to your self or others. If you have not done so already, you need to seek a second opinion. If both psychiatrist agree, then you just have to accept the fact that you have a mental illness.
Just curious, have you looked up the definition of schizophrenia in the DSM-IV? If you don't know what that is or how to read it, you should not be second guessing your psychiatrist.

I'm surprised they could keep you in the hospital involuntarily for two months for writing emails about Freemasons. Are you sure you're telling the whole story? Did you threaten somebody? I used to work for a state hospital and I never heard of anything like that unless they had reason to believe the patient might harm himself or others.
Maybe you can get a lawyer and get referred to another psychiatrist. If the other psychiatrist thinks you don't have Schizophrenia or you aren't a danger to yourself or others, maybe you'll have a case, but it's not going to be easy.
PS: I just thought of something. Instead of calling a regular lawyer, try to get in touch with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). They might be able to help you.

Well, from someone who is in the mental health system. You do have to follow the court order but this does not sound like a typical situation. Usually someone is court ordered to stay in the hospital and then they are allowed to go home and that is that. The emails must have been very serious in manner. You definitely need to follow the court orders and continue to get the help they feel you need. If you feel as if you have been wronged there are advocates out there who can help you with this. A court order is typically not pressed unless it is proven that you are a harm to yourself or someone else. I wish you the best of luck.

Frogger:
All of this depends on how old you are and how many times you have been in any kind of trouble throughout the years. It may be that your Dad has the upper hand, which is very unfortunate, but if you are of age, I would suggest you get away from all of that, as in move out of the state and stay away for a long time. However, what you have done is considered an act of terrorism and is not looked upon lightly in our country at this time and probably will never be. I truly feel for you, but I think that there is a little more going on here that the smoking of some pot. It is time to grow up and accept what you have done, and move on. I hope that things work out for you.

Find a better lawyer, have your own psych evaluations done, and take your father to court. And once you get this all worked out, don't email your Dad when you're high.
If your evals come back with same results, you need to consider that there is a chance that you are mentally ill.
Let's face it, when you're high, you don't come up with stuff that isn't already in your head. You can't tell me that Mel Gibson really loved Jews up until that 6th beer. Drugs just lower the boundaries of what you're willing to say.
So if you are mentally ill, get the help you need and live a productive life.
Good luck.

Seek out another psychiatrist and get a second opinion. I find it hard to believe that with all of the testing they do to come up with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, they could have diagnosed someone who is mentally healhty, though.
But if you're really concerned, just get a second opinion.

aren't the masons some secret society or something? I really don't care anyway. You must have said something much more than that to get your dad freaked out. That's all I know about the "mason's" or "freeemasons". What's a Mason anyway, and who called it that. Anyway, what did you write in the e-mails to freak your dad out, and what was your behaviour like? You must have done something, because it wouldn't make sense. So, what's really going on?
