Use 1 can evaporated milk and 1 can water (not the two it calls for on the can,) start it warming in a saucepan on the stove and then stir in about 1/4 cup cocoa powder and 1/4 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar and the tiniest pinch of salt. Add a touch of cinnamon if you like that. Stir everything in with a whisk , if you have one, or even a slotted spoon. Let it heat slowly, to bring out all the flavors, but don't let it boil. Keep stirring as it heats. Yes, it's a little more time and work than packaged mixes, but it is SO worth it! You can make a double batch so you can keep the leftovers in the fridge and heat them in the microwave. Ajust this recipe to taste, of course.

I use cocoa powder, or Cadbury drinking chocolate... just bought those sachet ones yesterday and can't take to them at all myself... they're sickly, very heavy, so I'll stick with the originals, you can never improve on those.

Brilliant source of iron is cocoa... I drank it like tea, in pots, throughout my reproductive years and it worked wonders when I was anaemic, when iron injections almost killed me (collapsed and ended up in hospital) and tablets, made me vomit... good old cocoa did the trick, in building up the iron, and the kids were all ok that way too.

Buy some Cadburys drinking chocolate the one you need to use milk. Boil milk either on hob or heat in microwave better to use full fat milk. When warm add 3 teaspoons of choc stir pour in to your favourite mug add 2 marshmellows and sprinkle with cocoa powder. Long winded but very nice

Make your own.
Here's how i do mine.

a good handful of good quality dark chocolate
150ml single cream
200ml milk
drop of vanilla essence
shot of booze, i.e rum, kahlua, grand marnier (all optional)

half fill a pan and boil the water, put the chocolate in a heat proof bowl and place the bowl on top of the pan whilst boiling.
the chocolate will melt and when it has slowly whisk in the other ingredients bit by bit, bring it all to the boil and then it is ready.

Charbonnel & Walker.

Bit more expensive that Cadbury's. Made of flaked chocolate.

We get our tin from Waitrose or Tescos. Of course it may be elsewhere
