Canadians are very very polite, and very nice, all over Canada, except for behind the wheel.
They are also far more reserved than people in the U.S., harder to get to know, slower to open up.
Canadians will gladly give you directions, open their home to you in a national or local emergency, and nod to you on the street.
Providing that is what you mean by friendly, it IS the national trademark.
Canadians favorite passtime (just watch Canadian TV or hang out with a group of Canadians) is ridiculing Americans, but they won't do it to your face. They are too polite for that.

I have visited most of the provinces in Canada, and I currently live in Manitoba.
In my experience the friendliest places have been either the Maritimes or the Territories, but you'll find friendly Canadians almost anywhere in Canada.

Any Canadian province has friendly people and no one is more friendlier than one or the other regardless where you go. Just avoid rough looking places just like in the USA and you will be ok. Keep you valuables out of site in your vehicles and lock your vehicles. Watch where you swipe you credit cards or bank cards too. Put a steering wheel anti-thief bar on your steering wheel so your vehicle does not get stolen. Vehicle thief and identity and bank or credit card fraud is the top 5 crimes that are committed in Canada. So, play it safe when traveling in Canada. There are a lot of beautiful landscape scenery and historic sites too. What ever you do, Do Not feed wild animal or get close to them or they may attack and if they do, you will be very hurt or possibly die from them especially bears. If your going to Quebec, I suggest brushing up your French language skills. Canada is a bi-lingual country. Again, no matter where you go in Canada every place has the most friendlist people. Have a good trip.

From my past and present experience in Canada, these are the provinces I have visited more than once and are rated based on most friendly at the top:
- Alberta (Calgary/Banff area)
- Ontario (Welland/Prince Albert/Kingston/Brockville)
- Quebec (Quebec City/West Montreal/St. Jerome/Arundel)
The only areas I have had some unfriendly experiences were in Greater Toronto (ON) area, and in Montreal (QC) east end or Laval (QC) area.
I live in North Shore Quebec. I think the reason people do not think it is that friendly is partially because of the language issue...We are never sure whether to start speaking to you in French or English so we often say nothing at all.
I also heard that the maritime provinces were very friendly, but I can't attest to it since I have not been there personally.

The Maritime Provinces - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island - are noted as one of the friendliest places in Canada. Life is more laidback, and people have time for one another.

Hi, and yes I agree that the Atlantic provinces do have the friendliest people, maybe because they care for their neighbours whether you are miles away or just a short walk.. I love the quiet and peaceful feeling you get when I can walk around the neighbourhood and talk to my neighbours.

Most Canadians are friendly. Regardless of province, the nicest ones are found in the smaller communities. Big cities can give anyone a harder edge, for their own safety.
We regularily adopt new friends as part of the family. We are sincerely interested in humanity in general.

Atlantic Canada definately has the friendliest people. Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
The pace of life is slower. Time to smell the roses and chat with friends and family. And always happy to welcome visiters from afar!

Quebec: French human beings, previous cities (Quebec city), overly political, extreme taxes and extreme high quality lakes/wood. New Brunswick: 0.5 french, 0.5 English, extreme high quality geographical area. Nova Scotia: Lobster, Halifax, the Trailer Park Boys, humorous accents and Peggy's Cove. (and Cape Breton Island). PEI: pink soil, potatoes, a small city-like ecosystem, and confederation bridge. Newfoundland: fairly humorous accents, extreme high quality human beings, lots of alcohol, fish and icebergs. Nunavut: chilly, natives, lots of rocks and ocean. Northwest Territories: chilly, flat with wood and lakes, ice roads and the tree line. Yukon: chilly, mountains, like a BC North yet with much less human beings.
