The general rule to figure out calories is to multiply your weight by 10, so 165 pounds means 1650 calories per day. Under 1650, he will lose weight and more than 1650, he will add pounds.

2310 calories a day, based on his height, the formula is your weight times 12-15, use 12 if you do nothing all day, I used 13 because guys burn more cals. if he is active say for 30 min 3 or 4 times a week use the 15. These are from Dietary Guidlines, I read this stuff for fun.

if he doesnt work out then about 10 calories per pound should work (1650 calories per day). If he works out or is very active it can go up. 2000 to 2500 should work.
