Have you considered the possibility the late Pope may not have been as involved with the cover up as you are attempting to assert? The very fact he is being considered for sainthood, in spite of the clergy sex scandal, seems to suggest as much.
The truth is, Pope John Paul II made qualifications for priesthood for more stringent than they have been for some time. The new young breed of priests coming out of the seminary now will prove this point.
I guess when you only want to see the bad in people, you'll send them to hell for any reason.
I prefer acknowledging the good and bad in context. Do that and you will find saintly qualities in most anyone - in spite of their faults..

I don't think anyone that gets to be pope, could - not - be aware of the Papacys shameful history.
I still think John Paul is significant for our modern times. I call him John Paul, the last. He has portrayed, to the world, the best that organized religion can do. Perhaps when he was young, he had high ideals, but later on, these were all shattered. To me, he represents the biblical Peter.
And the Lord said to him - Peter, when you were a young man, you went where you wanted, and did what you wanted to do - but later on - your hands will be "bound, and you will be taken places - where you do not wish to go.
I'm sure that John Paul well understood those words.
The Lord said to Peter: Feed my children, three times he was commanded. John Paul 11, was the first Pope to reach out to the youth of any Nation. When he was young and spry, he loved to go canoeing, in the woods of Canada, and on His recent visit, stayed on Strawberry Island. When John Paul became tied down with running a country, and all the politics involved in all that, I'm sure he understood the words of Christ.
I am not saying that he is good or bad, but I respect him for reaching out to the youth.

First of all, I'm not religious in any sense. I don't believe in the Judeo-Christian/Muslim God, or any other gods.
Yes, while it is true that the Catholic Church covered up those scandals, it is not their fault. The people look to the Catholic Church as some collective of wonder-people. The Catholic Church is run by people, they are human, and are prone to error.
As for the pedophilia, it is blown way out of proportion. The percentage of the clergy who have been ACCUSED of pedophilia is significantly smaller than the percentage of HUMANS who have been CONVICTED of pedophilia. This means that people in the chuch are much, much, LESS likely to be pedophiles.
But it is because people have these unbelievable, absurd standards for the church that they have to be kept under wraps.
