I think its up to you and your partner. The old, new, borrowed and blue, have meanings found here http://nhnh.essortment.com/weddingceremony_rote.htm
I would think that any bride, whether she be marrying a man or a woman, would find the meanings sentimental. I dont think they are just meant to be used by a woman marrying a man, the meanings translate perfectly for any woman who is entering into a commitment!
But just as every woman marring a man has the option of doing or not doing this, so does every woman marrying another woman.
Good luck!
PS I didnt have a sixpense, I never even saw one until about 2 years ago, so a penny works just as good. Had one in my shoe and have been married over 8 years, so I can attest that a penny for the modern bride is ok!

Traditions are made to be broken. If the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" is important to you, then include it. If not, then don't. Just like any other tradition--like the bride's father walking her down the aisle, the blusher veil, the unity candle, the first dance--it's all optional. The only thing that's not optional is that you and your significant other love each other! That's what matters. Make your wedding unique--like your relationship. Make it reflect what's important to you. Include the traditions that have significance for you and discard the ones that aren't!
Congrats!

ANY wedding/union can follow anything you want to. If someone having a same sex marriage wants something old new borrowed and blue go for it!

A wedding is a wedding no matter who the couple is. The couple can do whatever they want. Go traditional or unique. It's a special day... make it memorable.

No one has to follow tradition, if we had to it would be called LAW and not tradition.

Make your own traditions!
I'm one of the maids-of-honor in a lesbian wedding later this month. They're doing their own thing that fits them, and you should too.
