The Army will require medical documentation stating that your mental condition is stable. If this was an isolated incident and medical professionals and documentation supports this with a statement that you are of no risk of a repeated incident, then they will more than likely waiver the medical record and approve you for enlistment.

Also, don't try to hide this information from the Army during the pre-enlistment medical examination phase. If you hide the information and are enlisted, you will receive a possible dishonorable discharge as well as possible criminal charges. Trust me, it will be best to provide the information, provide the required documentation that will be requested. If the Army's medical examiners believe that you are fit for enlistment, they will clear you for it.

Some readers might take this as a way to avoid military service. You can check the records of many political hawks in congress right now for other ways to avoid military service (should a draft be re-instated).

I'm unclear of the rationale for excluding someone with a suicide attempt on their record, because joining the military these days could be considered tempting death.

In our suicide prevention class we had a young specialist admit to two suicide attempts before she joined. Your medical records are sealed. If you don't bring it up yourself then you should be good to go. I hope you are doing better. Good luck to you.

No! That shows that you're an unstable person and army won't recruit you.
