The colour of the egg is nothing to do with food supliments,it is controlled by the breed of hen used to lay them. It just happens that the most prolific layers these days lay brown eggs. White eggs were mostly from Leghorns(all colours) Try your local farmers market.

Chickens eggs are naturally white but because we Brits like brown eggs the producers add a supplement to the chicken feed to colour the eggs. White eggs are the norm across Europe. There is absolutely no difference in taste.

When i was in America, i noticed all the eggs were white. And in Europe the eggs are always brown. I read that there is no difference in the actuall egg because of this. I think it's because of a certain type of chicken that produces white eggs

Yeah, I don't know where you're from but I've noticed that in America the eggs are white, whereas in most of Europe they are brown, and I don't think it's anything to do with one being better for you than the other, I think it's soley to do the breed of the chicken. And I think I heard that the American consumer prefers white eggs, so that's why they sell more white than brown eggs!

I have laying hens that are black and some that are brown. They lay huge brown eggs. White chickens lay white eggs. There is absolutely no difference in nutritional value between a white egg and brown egg, although some consumers feel the brown eggs are better for you, so will pay a premium price and the egg producers are laughing all the way to the bank. I free-range my hens, that is, they get to run free instead of living their lives in cages, so my eggs are healthier.

What do you mean they are still selling them in the stores? But the brown are from chickens that are not fed as well as the white if you feed a chicken a well balanced diet and do not keep her locked in a coup, she will be much healtyier and will produce white eggs.

I easily have one for my Rode Island crimson hens, and one for my Yellow bluff hens. That Scotty answer is right the chickens don't have twins. even nevertheless that's my Yellow Bluff fowl that lays the double yolk-er. and that i basically see a million/a hundred eggs. To get a hollow dosen this way somebody took the time to play a humorous tale and saved all eggs that way.

They disappeared when the big egg producers decided we all like brown eggs better and they started feeding their hens supplements to make the shells brown.
In other countries, white eggs are the norm.
