I play a game called "find it" with my dog. You take a treat and "hide it" in sight and when the dog goes over and eats it praise him. Repeat this several times place the treat in less obvious places each time. After a while your dog while understand that when you say "Find it!" you have hidden a treat somewhere for him. Remember to start out with easy places. This is also a great thing to do when you are leaving in the morning for work, once the dog catches on to the game, place 10 treats around the house and when you walk out the door say "Find it" and your dog will go on a treat finding hunt. Best of Luck!

Play with them. Chase them around the yard, throw a ball (or an orange - my dog loved that, and when it eventually fell apart, she's eat it.) Just giving attention is entertaining to dogs. Rub his/her belly, brush his/her fur, even simply talking to the dog can make him/her happy. And walks, of course.

We play ball, we take her to our friends and families houses to play with their dogs, I work on obedience, I teach her new tricks. She loves to learn, and stay is the hardest thing for her, so we work on that, when she succeeds she feels good! Sometimes she gets rawhides which entertain her. And if we have to leave her home while we go out we fill her kong with peanut butter or treats, that also keeps her entertained for a while.
This summer we plan to take her camping with us, and up to the cottage so she can go swimming with us, and go on the boat.

TOYS yay! Loads available in pet shops - nice soft toys for them to rip up, or kongs that you can stuff with treats, keeps them busy for ages!
Also boxers and the like love a good wrestling match with their owner!

My dogs have a big basket of toys and there's little down time for me daily because when I get the chance to sit and relax a toy is soon brought for me to toss.Repeatedly.
They have their very own swimming pool they jump in and out of during the summer. And lots of toys to chase around in the water. But they like it best when I get in with them to splash water at them or toss toys.
They go for a walk at the dog park every morning regardless of the weather. And after a 2 hr. nap they go outside to play ball with me for 30 minutes or so.If the weathers bad we play with their toys inside or we play hide and seek and work on training and sometimes I chase them around the house and then they chase me.They love that.
They have got to go for a ride in the car or truck everyday or they think they're being punished.Does'nt matter if I only take them with to the gas station 3 blocks away as long as they get to go they're happy.
They have to escort me the 60 feet to and from our mailbox every day.
In the afternoons we either take another walk or we go to the park close-by where they love to pull sticks out of the burn pile for me to throw or chase squirrels. Then another 2 hr.nap.
The day does not end until we go outside in the evening and they chase a laser light around the yard. And believe me they'll let me know when it's dark enough for it.If it's raining we play in the garage.

What I usually do is play catch with her (either a ball or bone), tickle her crazy (which she really loves especially behind the ears and on her belly), and lastly is to let her play with her favorite chew toy. She totally enjoys these things!

my dog would rather be in the van, [with water bowl] and windows 1/3 down, in the driveway-- than anywhere else on earth, when I try to get him out sometimes he won't come, he likes watching the people walk by.

GOOD LUCK!
