A place to go where we can share fellowship with others, discuss current events and the latest findings of science, get involved in charity drives, help the community, and educate people? A church without tithes where we can welcome others who might be thinking of "going Atheist"? And I don't mean the Unitarian church either (nothing against them, they just don't take a stand).

Here in the south it seems like there is a Fundamentalist or Evangelical church about every 3 blocks. I wish there was an Atheist fish fry some time, so I could eat some fish and grits without listening to someone prattle on about utter nonsense! But please, let's have rock music, not easy listening gospel sings.

I dont think that we should have a "church" so to speak but a place to get together and talk wouldnt be a bad idea.
But then there are the radical christians who would burn it down just because its not what they believe.

so pretty much your talking about a university. Its got all the qualities that your looking for. If there was an Atheist church, im pretty sure I wouldn't go, just cause it was called a church and I have bad associations with church (worship) so I think Id call it a community center for the religiously inept. Id be there right at this moment, but you know half of us would just sit around making fun of the Christians.

Mine's the redwoods or the beach, but I do like the idea of fellowship and community service. I plan to join a secular humanist group, and possibly the Unitarian Universalist church.

I am a Christian and I think that atheists should form their own church. I mean it is a humanistic religion basically. A belief that promotes the "opinion" that GOD does not exist. You could call it the first assembly of evolutionists and other shallow thinkers Ha Ha.... just kiddn. Ah, by the way if you don't collect for tithes or offerings how do you plan on financing this fiasco? I mean do you just plan on meeting in a public park or something? and doing absolutely nothing that costs money?

Surely there must be some organizations for you guys already, especially in the major cities. If not, start one.

What do you mean that Unitarian doesn't take a stand. From what I know off them, which is not much, They welcome all people with all beliefs. Isn't that correct?

Try some biblical archeology websites, if you like facts, you'll find a lot of evidence to support not only the bible, but creation and maybe give you a new perspective. Maybe try realizing that you can have a relationship with God, and not look at him like some concept that does or doesn't exsist..may God make his face to shine upon you in your doubt.

I don't know about a church, but a weekly gathering of people with the same beliefs or interests would be nice.

first of all ure contradicting yourself, an atheist is someone who believes in no God, no church, no religion, yet u would have your own church, i dont think u know what a church is bud, a church is a place to come and bow down before the king of kings and Lord of Lords, a place to recognize the God almighty not a place of fellowship and good doings, i mean it is a place of fellowship and good doings but that's not the meaning of a church

No, because atheists don't believe in organized religion. What you want is basically like a book club without the books.

As a Christian, I believe you have every right to. That means you should also be tolerant of Christians.

And like any belief system, there is nothing wrong with stating your belief in hopes of influencing others.
