So unfortunately the only place I had stored the information about my 2005 tax returns (both state and federal) were on my computer. My computer crashed and I lost everything. Does anyone know of a way I could get a copy of my 2005 federal and state return so I can finish my 2006 taxes. (I used Turbo Tax both times).

Hello, Gary! For your federal return, you can file form 4506-T to request a transcript of your 2005 return. But since the request can take up to 2 weeks after the IRS receives your request, I would highly recommend calling them directly at 1-800-829-1040; you may be able to get it more quickly that way.

For your state return, you'll have to call your state tax department to find out your options for retrieving the return (particularly since you've only got 16 days left to get things filed!). Good luck! :-)

You can get a transcript from the IRS at no charge, or an actual copy for $39. The transcript should have all the info you need, just in a different format from your original return.
