I am a Christian and I'm feeling kind of doubtful of my religion. Because Mormonism seems to have more detail about Jesus. But on the other hand I want to stay with Christianity, and plus Mormonism says stuff in the Book of Mormon that is against Christianity. My point is I just want to feel good about Christianity. So could you please tell me stuff about Mormonism that is just weird or against the Bible. That would really help me out.

One can carefully study the doctrines and theologies of the Mormon beliefs (see sources below), and can then form their own conclusions. I see no issue with someone objectively stating their opinions if they are based on a rational analysis of the issues. I have carefully studied Mormonism, met with many Mormons here in Arizona and read all of materials held sacred by Mormons for over ten years.

In the final analysis, I have found the non-Christian religions, such as Mormonism, to be philosophically indefensible, being internally incoherent or undermining human reason and experience.

Well first of all, I am a mormon. You should not be looking for "weird stuff" or "stuff against the bible in mormonism." You should be searching to see if mormonism is right for you. and no, we don't worship joseph smith. we do not need joseph smith's permission to get into heaven. joseph smith founded the church, but we do not worship him. Our church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We call ourselves Latter Day Saints, LDS, or Mormon. You should go to a Mormon church to learn about it. Some people use a different bible than us. There are many different types of bibles. We use the King James version, because it is the version that has not been modified to fit a different religon. We did not modify the bible, some other religons did. I am not saying that is a bad thing though. I think what ever religon you are in is fine. I do not criticize other religons, so I don't understand why other people criticize us. If you really want to learn about Momonism, you should talk to a mormon, or go to the Church of Jesus Chist of Latter Day Saints. You can also talk to a Mormon Missionary. I hope this helps!

It is amazing how many people are misinformed regarding our beliefs. I looked through all of the answers and most of the ones from non mormons are incorrect.

The largest difference between us (Latter-day Saints) and the Christians who worship the rules as set forth by the Nicene counsel as well as:

1. There are three levels of Heaven. Almost everyone will go to Heaven, even those that have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How could Heavenly father possibly throw people in an Eternity of Hell because they did not know the truth is beyond me. You must know for sure that the gospel is truth and deny God to go to Hell. One will go to the Heavens if they believe Jesus is their savior, even if they are not that great of a person. It is through works of which we are rewarded, so it would be difficult for someone to lead a horrible life and be rewarded as great of an afterlife as a person who lead a life trying to please Heavenly Father.

2. Heavenly Father is God, Jesus is not Heavenly Father, nor is the Holy Ghost Heavenly Father. We do not believe in the Trinity.

3. Joseph Smith is not our God, he is a prophet from the 1800s which translated an ancient text of which 11 people witnessed, all of which never denied it as the absolute truth. Joseph Smith translated from ancient records the Book of Mormon, it is not against Christianity but is Christianity. Despite what our critics say we do have evidence on our side.

4. We value the Holy Bible just as much as we do our other scriptures. They are all sacred and Holy to us.

5. We have modern day prophets.

I am fairly new to the Church, I wish I could provide you more answers but the best way to learn the Truth is by talking to missionaries and attending one of our Churches. Read the Book of Mormon and pray.

Mormon's are Christians. Apparently you don't understand that Christians are people who believe in Christ as the Savior. Mormons believe in him. The difference is that they accept the teaching of Joseph Smith as a prophet. A good Mormon is a truly good person. Some of them believe in polygamy, which I don't but aside from that I can't say whether their uniquely Mormon beliefs are right or not. I do know that I won't judge them because they follow the Joseph Smith teachings. If they believe they should follow them then I think that is what the think it takes for their salvation. I just don't know if he was a true prophet or not and I don't feel that I need the believe them to be saved.

If you define Christianity as belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ than Mormonism is a sect of Christianity.

Some people claim Mormonism conflicts with what they consider main-stream Christianity based on their understanding of some verses in the Bible. We (Mormons) believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God, and that what some people see as conflicts are actually misunderstandings.

Fortunately there is a way to resolve the dilemma. Study the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and ask God through prayer if what you've studied is the truth. He will tell you the answer in your mind and heart.

Another recommendation is to ignore malicious answers or answers from people who clearly fail to show an example of good Christian behavior as you understand it.

We "Mormons" as some call us- I prefer LDS or Latter-Day Saints, are Christian. We believe in God, Christ and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Christ is our savior and that He died for us. We believe He atoned for our sins, and it is through Him we are saved. The Book of Mormon is no way against the Bible, in fact it is another testiment of Christ. It follows the bible, it enforces the bible. We believe in the bible, we read the bible.

This weekend is our General Conference. If you haven't had an opportunity to listen to some of the talks this time, they have been about Christ, about how we believe in Christ, about how we believe in the bible. Tomorrow, they should have most of the talks available on the site listed below. I would urge you to listen to President Hinckley's talk in the morning session. It is all about your question. It will answer key questions about what we really believe. I am also posting a site that can help answer questions of you about us.

It is good that you are questioning certain things, and have found that there may be something to what we believe. Please, take the time to pray about what you feel, and to ask God what you should do. He will help you to know what you should do. Also, please read or listen to the talks given today. They will really help you. They were meant more for people outside the church today, then for us. President Hinckley's talk is the best, but the others that talked today were wonderful also.

I know of no other religion that practices "Christianity" better than do the Mormons. That is why I am a member of it. The Welfare system of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helps more people around the world, than most any other faith group. That is called putting faith and works together to serve others. That is why "works" is an important part of faith. I could "believe" all I wanted that people can get the help they need, but if I avoid doing things myself to help them, where would the help come from? That is called butting your faith in Christ to action. That is Christianity in action. that is Christ's church in action.
Mormons do more to volunteer their time, their money, their resources than anyone else. Why do they do it? Because they are serving God and Christ. They consecrate their time, talents and all they possess to serve their fellowmen.
When you discover why Mormons would do this, then you will have discovered the "pearl of great price the Savior spoke about where a man would sell all he possessed to have it. The Mormon Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ it teaches is that Pearl of great price.

It depends on what you call Christianity. Mormons believe in Christ and the resurrection and the atonement. They are Christians. There are differences, but there are differences between all churches. My advice to you is to go with what you feel is right. If you have not done so, I would walk to the LDS missionaries to find out what Mormons believe. I notice a lot of false information or misleading partial truths here on R&S, so that is probably your best bet. If you feel Mormonism is right, please act on what God says regardless of what critics say.

Where should I start?
God has a body where the Bible says not.
Jesus worked himself up to be God just like God the Father did and Mormons hope to.
They have a false restoration of the truth, priesthood and the church.
The rank and file members are fine, but the leaders are lying to the rank and file members.

So feel good about Christianity. How could someone come along and shake your faith? Or do you have faith? When God wanted us to learn about Him, He did not instruct us to follow one religion. He said to learn Him. Religion is only like a support group of people that all believe, respect, and have faith in the same superior power. Call it what you like. What separates one religion from another is it's practices or rituals, which usually lead to different beliefs. The practices lead to judgments of those that do not choose to follow. So you wind up with opposing opinions. Opposing churches. The one thing that stands out here is the information you seek is still out there. You don't have to be a Mormon to go to the church and learn about Mormons. You don't have to be catholic to go to their church and learn about catholics. You can find the information you want anyplace. Library, bookstores, Internet, going to different churches. You are not limited to one particular religion just because that is the one you were baptized into. So what. Those churches don't have all the answers. If they did they would be perfect and the entire world would be of one faith. Information and knowledge are free. Get all you can. And don't rush. Make an informed decision. You have your whole life.

Mormons are Christians but their original leader, Joseph Smith, claimed he had received some golden tablets from God that made some new rules for Mormons. (which I kind of think is bunk but then so is a lot of stuff in the Bible).

I think if you want a family oriented good bunch of people then the Mormons are a very nice bunch. My cousin converted to Mormon after he married a girl who is Mormon. They have 6 children and are very happy.
