Lossing 10 pounds..if your not overweight, then I would first, quit ALL pop. Seriously. Also, no chips, junk food/fastfood either. Eat more veggies, and fruits. This alone with some simple walking, which is about 30 minutes 3 x a week, will knock off 10 pounds in about 2 weeks.

jack- your a nutritionist and yet in your posted diet you do not advocate any intake of EFAs for a 13 yr old?????

dr frank & others- although you know this persons age you have no other info on their weight/height or even gender!?!?!?!? giving them a target no of cals is not a good idea IMO, heck, calory counting at any age isn;t great, but encouraging a 13 yr old to calory count?! depressing IMO and not the type of behaviour we should be encouraging in our youth IMO

qbabby- thats quite a net calory defeicit for a 13 year old.....

trish- if your really concerned have a chat with your GP who will have your relevant details and will be able to make an informed decision. however, at 13 leading an active lifestyle (whether thats sports or gym a few times a week) and cutting out snacks/too many treats and eating healthily (such as what the other members have posted) should be more than sufficient!

if it isn;t working too well after a month then cut back on your food intake a little more, ensure its balanced & healthy and u will be fine

best of luck

There's no healthy way to lose weight quickly. You just need to eat sensibly and get good exercise (3-4 times a week with cardio and weights). It's possible to lose 10 in a month but you're more likely to lose 10 in a month a half.

Whatever you do, don't starve yourself and don't allow yourself to be any lighter than you need to be for your height and bone size. If you're 5'4 and weigh 125 pounds, you're healthy and don't need to lose any. Same height but maybe 140-150, then I'd say lose about 10.

I don' t understand why you want to loose weight when you are not overweight ? Also you are 13 which means your body is still growing and developing. I don' t think it' s a good idea for you to start dieting at such a young age. This will sound patronising to you and i am sure you have thought about this before but if you seriously consider to go ahead with this you should consult your GP to give you advise.
Maybe you should also think again why you actually want to loose weight.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

Cardio cardio cardio. I personally lose 5lb in 3 weeks doing fitness DVD called the complete AT-HOME WORKOUT it is really good especially the thighs, butt, and Abs disc. but if you have access to a gym i would consider talking to a fitness program person there. or joining a belly-dancing, or yoga class. They are both really fun and can help you trim off some of those winter pounds. Just remeber to eat well (that means your vegies too) and drink water rather than pop when your thirsty

Eat vegetables for a snack. Try some flavored yogurt. Exercise, because with exercise you build muscle and lose fat. It is important to not lose muscle when you diet, which can happen, if you don't exercise. Build muscle, lose fat. It is the sensible way to exercise and lose weight. Good luck.
