I have a red nose and american pit bull and i waited to long to get it done. You have to do within the first few weeks of life. You still could but you would mean having to go through surgery to have it done and its more painful for the animal when you do it when they are older.

Cropping a dogs ears can also be beneficial. It makes them less prone to ear infections.

If you elect to crop your puppy's ears, it is best to have it done as early as possible -- six weeks of age in the larger breeds and not more than 9 weeks of age for the small breeds. Since the ear cartilage is permanently set by the time a dog is 4 months old, ears cropped after this age may never stand up properly. Be sure that an experienced, qualified veterinarian in a hospital environment does the operation.

Ear cropping is a painful and drawn out process, and the ears don't always end up looking "right". The procedure is purely for looks, so I would consider leaving them alone. As a vet tech I have heard horror stories with ear cropping. Save yourself the money and the dog the pain.

There's really no reason to have them cropped except for looks...but if you do, the younger the better. I'd say before 4 months. Consult your vet (not all vets do them....actually less and less are actually performing this elective surgery)

I think pits are waaay cuter with their ears

The day you're ready to choip off bits of yourself just cause other people think it looks better. Very few dogs get infected ears, I don't know of any pittbulls on that list. Be responsible, not part of a swarm of people who think a dog is a fashion statement.

Never! Leave him the way he is. How about you getting your ears clipped just to fit into a society humans create?

At the same time you're ready to have your ears chopped off.

If you decide to have your dogs ears cut off then you should speak with your vet. This is not something you can do youself and your vet is the expert so please ask them!!

You don't - why would you do this? Dogs are born with ears for a reason!
